Mini Split A/C install.

Installing a mini split for my grow room and figured I'd do a diy post. It's an easy process and not many tools are needed.

Tools needed

Screwdriver, hole saw with pilot bit, couple wrenches or some pliers.
Optional: tubing cutter and flare tool

Step 1. Find studs and mount the bracket for the indoor unit.

Step 2. Test hang the indoor unit and identify where the line are and where you want them to go through the wall. I chose to go straight back out the wall but you can run the lines through cut outs on the sides.

Step three. Drill hole through the drywall, remove insulation. Drill a pilot hole from inside through the exterior wall.
Go outside and drill/cut hole in the exterior wall. I have vinyl siding where the hole is going so I run the hole saw in reverse so it doesn't rip the siding.

Step four. Install wiring that connects indoor and outdoor units. This is my second mini split install and both have been clearly labeled on where to connect each wire. 1 goes to 1 and 2 goes to 2

Step five. Run the lines through the wall and hang the indoor unit on its bracket.

Connect outdoor wiring and copper lines. I decided to cut mine and re-flare them but you can use the pre-made lines that come with the system and just coil any extra line.

Step six. Once you have your lines where you want them you prepare the ground to stabilize your unit and tape your lines together.

Ok
Here is my 2 cents good thread btw

installing anything anymore comes down to proper tools
Be it diagnostics or actual leaning on a wrench
So yes
Installing your own can be frustrating but it can be done
Bonus something’s like evacuation pumps or submersibles can have multi use’s
Most of the how to DIY on the web with the right tools is easy/doable
The rest just takes a bit of elbow grease beyond trying to reinvent the wheel/mouse trap
I can assure most can tighten those fittings with whatever it takes as long as they knew going in it is the number one concern beyond proper maintenance
My forearms aren’t really from spinach ;)

Biggest installation issue. 2nd is drains. Biggest usage issue is the paper towel roll fan blade gets dirty and isn't strong enough to deal with it.
Everyone is doing it, you know you will too. Might as well do it right the first time.
especially when your mother in law is too lazy to clean the dam filter. i put 2 in her house cause she was using a wood stove/window units in her log cabin good news she says it dropped her light bill down 200 dollars because she would be too lazy to add wood and would turn on space heaters :P P.S. dont get me started i had to add a new sub panel in to get this done because her father put the smallest breaker box i ever seen in that house. OP get that condenser off the ground.

Well I guess the op couldn’t get a base built lol. I’ve done 4 of these now myself with precharged units. Adjustable wrenches are needed at a minimum, not adjustable pliers. Also I was told if your using the premade linesets not to coil extra line as the oil will sit in the bottom of those loops. I don’t have a vacuum pump so I just did a lazy hvac mans purge before firing up.

that is great, I installed mine about two years ago. That unit is the best investment by far, for my room and they are very energy efficient. How do you like it so far/
