Mike Huntherz Presents: The Perpetual Variety Good Time Grow Show!

A micro-grow journal where I run a few beans at a time to produce a variety of tasty smoke for me to choose from. I grow in Mordor, where the shadows lie, and the Eye of Sauron scans the landscape for tiny Hobbits growing that Longbottom Leaf. They lock people in cages for this, can you believe that shit? Barbarians!

Right now I'm running a tap water only organic soil I've amended with some stuff, mostly Espoma *-Tone products in Black Gold Natural and Organic base.

Black Gold Natural And Organic, 2 cu. ft. (12 Gallons)
I add about 3 gallons of chunky perlite.
1.5 Cups Plant-Tone
1.5 Cups Garden-Tone
2 Cups Holly-Tone
1/2 Cup Bone Meal
1/2 Cup Blood Meal
1 Cup Horticultural (Dolomite) Lime

If the base mix is dry I add a gallon or two of water so it is moist, but not wet.
I mix it up in big Rubbermaid storage bins, then I stir every few days and
let it cook for at least a month, preferably 6 weeks.

I don't plant seeds or cuts directly into it.
It seems to work.
I use 5 gallon smart pots for flowering, and I usually veg in a size or two smaller, I may start going from 16oz keg cup straight to the 5 gallon Smarty. I need to buy a few more, and another small tent to dry flowers in. Odor is a real concern for me, so my early-flower tent, finish-flower tent and drying tent will all need to have carbon filters.

I have four plants two weeks into flower, all grown from feminized seeds:
  • 1 Scott's OG from Rare Dankness. Triangle Kush x Rare Dankness #1
  • 1 Devil's Harvest Strawberry Sour Diesel
Both of the above germinated on March 28. In the back left and back right, shorty and the tall bitch of the tent shot, respectively.
  • 2 Freebies I got from Delicious, called Candy this year, Cheese Candy last year. Their Caramelo x Exodus Cheese.
Both of these Germinated April 1. They are the two in the front of the tent shot.

I flipped them all to flower just over two weeks back.

I also have some in veg,

I've attached some of the pics I have on hand, I'll add better ones going forward.

It is about time I started this thread.

The plan is to harvest two plants, then move two plants into the flower tent every month. It will probably take me some practice to make it happen, and I realized just now I'm going to need another tent, but that's the direction I'm headed. Peace for now, and forever. Yada yada y'all, I'm out.

I've been using Blumats in the flower tent, but the plumbing gets in the way of pruning and plant maintenance, I may switch to hand watering. I'll continue to dial in my process. Hand watering sounds like a lot of work compared to keeping the reservoir full and ignoring everything else. I like to automate things as much as I can justify.

Watering system:
I have two Blumat sensors per 5-gallon pot, the supply line comes down from the reservoir and there's a T piece that makes a loop around. On the far end from the far end from the reservoir is another T to a stand-pipe that is taped to the frame of the tent and goes up to the same height as the top of the reservoir. The standpipe keeps pressure up across the system and allows air bubbles to escape more easily. It is all 100% gravity fed and passive.

But I'm thinking of tearing out, I am slacking on the pruning right now because the plumbing is in the way. Maybe I just need a bigger tent, I don't know. Maybe I need to be less of a lazy twit.

Thoughts, anyone? @Cannacat - I know I probably grossed you out in that other thread yesterday, haha, but I hope you come chill here and tell me what you think. If you show up, all the nice kids like @Olive Drab Green will probably follow. ;)

That's pretty cool, I assume it was a contest here on RIU? I won a prize here myself a while back, got a nice swag bag with a 5pack of Fast & Vast autos :). I chucked 2 of them in pots out on the back deck for fun but I'm not really wired for autos, don't like being told what's up lol. I feel like all you can do is fuck them up, it's basically impossible to do anything to make them better...

BTW, I didn't see in the OP any mention of what lighting you are using? Just curious, I'm just running the el cheapo 600w ipower mh/hps kit off ebay myself, been pretty decent but I'm considering at least a bulb upgrade...

I'm running a used 600W digital ballast, good quality, but I don't know the brand name of it, and a simple gullwing reflector with a DigiMax HPS bulb. I veg under T5 fluoros. I'll be going all COB this year, most likely.

I'm not down with autos, but I sure get a lot of free seeds, so I ran one, it was OK. It was quick and looked pretty, but yielded only about 40g.

"It was fast, but I didn't like it"
- that's what she said.

Oh, it was a Midweek Song thing here on RIU, I guessed the "secret meaning" of their name and won a shirt. And seeds, apparently. :D

Haha, yea I remember that you cheaty wikipedia turd ;) Am I wrong? Pretty sure not lol....

Cool, sounds pretty similar to me, T5 veg as well. I just got the T5 recently so I'm still trying to find the sweet spot for height, some people run them right down on the plants but my canopy temps get a bit too hot. Should I run higher ya think or work on cooling with lower lights?

Not wikipedia in this case, an anagram generator. I like to run my t5 ho at a foot off, six or eight bulb four footers.

Haha, ok well then you did figure out it was an anagram, not too cheaty after all..Yea mine are about 18" so that seems good enough, I kinda need the wider footprint.
I feel like I get better results at 12-18" off the top, overall.

I took a long drive to CO and back this weekend, and it was totally worth it. I already miss my new Colorado friends, what a great group. It was my pleasure and privilege to hang out with those folks. Good vibes, delicious food, top-shelf beer, great smoke and an excellent party.
