mh ringing

I just got a new 400w digital ballast and set it up with a mh bulb and it's ringing. The sound seems to come from the bulb. It's not very loud but when you are near it you can hear a really high pitched ring. Is there any cause for concern? When I googled it someone said it could be close to going out which is really disappointing because I just got it.

Yes it says digital and magnetic.
OK.....well do you know if the mh bulb is open fixture rated?? meaning it has a coil or glass sleeve around the arc ........or are you using the bulb in a closed fixture/reflector/hood/etc.?

if it's an unprotected bulb in an open fixture I would HIGHLY recommend you DO NOT use it until you get in contact with the manufacturer.....good luck

That sounds kind of crazy. There's some guys on here that know their stuff on the electrical things. I'm not one of them.

This is it http://www.amazon.com/Apollo-Horticulture-GLBMH1000-1000-Halide/dp/B0081IEC2K/ref=pd_sim_lg_4 I assume they're compatible because they came together.

ok ..........amazon ppl have done me right

make a video of the Ringing make sure that is all u get
(move the plants out /put a fold up table over them and drape a sheet over that ... something)

then grab your camrea get a video of the light ringing then u go and unplug the light and the rining stops (35 40 sec video)
upload to utube and keep it unlisted .........post the video url to amazon and tell them u feel unsafe with this bulb u think it might have been damage in shipping .....they will tell u to send it back them and they will replace it .......or u can order a 2nd one and they will shipp it along with refund it (no shitting that what they did for a hps that died after 4 days) same ppl apollo 600w hps

i used the live chat for mine i did not need the video .............but i did need it for a bad T5 ballast

Yikes a $15 400w HID bulb, and he's selling it at a profit!!......well the 1000w mh bulb seems to be protected, but not the 400w if the pics are accurate. I would NOT use it and return for a refund due to way low quality materials. Don't risk your life or your neighbors by using a very cheap chinese bulb. Spend a little more money for safety and assurance.

be safe and good luck

What am I looking for when you say protected? It's weird my mh bulb doesn't have the bulge in the middle like in the internet picture. And then the hps in the internet picture is straight like my mh but the one I have has like a triangle shaped bulge. This is what they really look like if it makes a difference. I'm totally new to hid lighting I just wanted to get rid of the cfls and I thought it was a great package deal.

Yeah it's not protected(coil/glass around the center arc^^ middle packet within the bulb) , IF you really need to use those cheap bulbs run the HPS from the start until you get a better hps/mh bulbs. HPS is open fixture rated and more stable(won't explode) than MH. The hps will just not turn on anymore when it fails.

So you got that I-power combo huh??? people rave because it's VERY cheap............remember that cheap components under heavy electrical load is not favorable.

be safe

Actually the apollo one a little cheaper hahaha. That's stupid if they aren't compatible how can they sell them all together like that?

My mh bulb kinda ring's/rattles when I bumb the hood but that is just the metal arc tube support lightly tapping against the inside of the glass it happened with my last mh bulb whenever i bumped the reflector, never had any problems with it going bad in fact my last 400 w Mh light had belonged to 3 different people who all used it I used it for a year then got a new one even though the old one still works. If your concerned about it go ahead and write amazon and see what they will do for you.

acoustic resonance due to certain things such as THD from a shitty digital ballast and/or how well the lamp is made.
