MH bulb turns on then right back off. Why?

Have a 600w-400w solis tek digital ballast witha wing reflector and a generic 400w MH. I plug in the ballast with everything connected and the lamp fires up then turns back off, why is this?
 
Could it be the generic bulb? I just need somebody to point me in the right direction ����?
 
If you can take the bulb in and have some one at your grow shop check it. If it works there then it's your ballast. Also did ya try it a few times? I'm sure you did. good luck match

Usually its your ballast that is malfunctioning. Try another bulb thats the cheapest route. If it continues to what you are experiencing then it is the ballast which would need repair or replacement.
 
sometimes my ebay setup fires up and turns off bt in 5 to 10 min shes usually on
 
It's a brand new ballast never ran. I hope it's the bulb not being the right brand, the bulb wants to turn on it ignites then goes out
 
i have the same ballast, the bulb is not compatible. i had a 400w halide that flared out in the middle and it would not fire up, i took it back to the shop and they tested it on a magnetic ballast and it worked fine, by then i had already bought a digilux 600w halide so i didnt need it. All in all its the bulb not being compatible with the ballast.
 
For the last 15 years, I take care of a building that uses MH lights. 99% of the time, when the bulb is bad, it does exactly what you're talking about. One time, I did have to replace the ballast. When the ballast was bad, it stunk like shit and there was gel running out of it. I've also had brand new MH bulbs not work properly, and the only cure was another bulb.

I don't use MH in my grow room, I only use CFL's and HPS, not that this has anything to do with your problem.
 
Lol yea I figured it was the bulb, took the ballast to my local hydro stre they tested it and it worked fine. So I bought a 600w solarMax bulb and it's beautiful lol
