What happens if I plug a 175 watt Metal Halide bulb into an ordinary, light bulb fixture cord I bought from home depot? What is the purpose of the balast

I have not seen this done... But I would guess there is serious potential for FIRE....

I would not leave such a bulb unattended...

im not sure about a HID light that small, but the bigger wattage lights have a different size base. there is noway to use just a run of the mill fixture cord. they simply just wont screw together

Does anyone know how to hook these up? I bought a 175 watt metal halide ballast kit and I dont know how to hook it up
