I was at wal-mart today and saw mercury vapor bulb for a mogul socket cheap. Are they any good for growing?

Before hps came around and cfl bulbs people used to grow with mercury vapor lamps. But seeing as things have progressed they aren't really considered that useful for the grow room anymore. They build up heat and can be quite the fire hazard so unless you want to take the risk of burning down your house i would stick with either cfl or hps/mh lighting.

Alright. I was just curious. I am going to go with a 400 watt HPS. How many plants can i grow under that doing a SOG? NGT you are a big help thank you.

It all depends on size and if your growing from seed or clone.

growing from seed. And it will most likely be white widow and I will lollipop them.

From seed the closest you can really get them is to give each plant a square foot.

Alright there should be enough room them. I am going to place the ballast outside the closet so it doen't get to hot.
