Out of DWC and into soil!

This is a grow that started in Deep Water Culture but had to be moved back into soil for domestic reasons! Makes sense to start a new thread as it is no longer a DWC grow. I'll explain quickly what happened. Had a wardrobe grow in the spare room but due to impending family visit I had to move back into my old smaller cabinet. The plants had vegged for 18 days in my DWC set up BUT this was not going to fit into the old cab  So, drastic decision..... they had to go into pots, in soil! I wasn't sure if this would work but 4 days after the move they are flourishing. No symptoms of shock whatsoever, they have just continued to grow :bigjoint: Heres a few pics showing the plants before and after transplant. It was done very carefully, I laid the root mass deep in the soil and covered gently then watered in with plain PH'd water. As you can see they look fine.

I did have to sacrifice one of the plants again due to lack of space as this cabinet is only 32" wide and my pots are each 10" diameter.

So here we go again! back in soil and just switched to 12/12. I topped 2 of them just once, the other I have left as shes very short and bushy.

Photos show plants at day 18 from germination in dwc. Nice clean root mass. Next post will show the plants after transplanting to soil.

O, so its now 4 days after transplant and they are doing just fine. Heres the spec again:

Seedsman Mazari feminised (mazari sharrif X skunk no.1)

350watts of CFL's

vegged for 21 days, topped once on 2 plants.

PH 6.2 now in soil. I 'bubble' my water for several hours using an air pump before watering .

BioBizz grow and bloom for soil.

Currently day 2 of 12/12.

*****************************************

Cabinet: roughly a metre square by 30cm deep! This little cabinet kept me smoking happily for the past 2 years, although I have been growing for many more years than that!

Botom left; intake fan 4".
Top left: circulation fan.

Top right: exhaust fan 4".

temps holding steady at mid to upper seventies (tends to climb very gradually through the day to a max of 78.

Thats about it! Heres some more pics of them today.

Any comments or suggestions welcomed, BUT please don't post telling me to get a HPS :finger: I'm a committed CFL grower and see no reason to change back.

Looks good. Looks like they took to the transplant well ! That's always nice !

So, whats your take on DWC ? Just curious. Would you go back, space permitting ?

Thank you RPsmoke :-) I think I was just lucky but I did take great care. I was expecting the worst to be honest, I'm amazed how well they took.

I'd go straight back to DWC and will do after this grow! But I've learned a lot from reading around this forum about DWC and I'm planning improvements. But I DO love to see these plants growing in soil too!

Cheers friend :-)

Thats awesome. I see some guys go from hydro to soil and have some plants that really show. Some don't. Guess it's all in the "hips" huh ?

Cool. I was just wondering. Sometimes you can become partial to a grow method if you've been doing it for awhile. Understandable, so I was just asking.

Anyway, look forward to seeing them bud !

That cab is gonna be packed I can't wait to see it!!!

Hi there GFK, and thanks for coming over :-) I must check out your thread to catch up on those beauties of yours!

Yes, its a very confined space but its workable, gives me everything I need. I kind of like the challenge! You can see the cabinet is quite stealthy :bigjoint: blends in well with the room when its closed up. Its crazy really, we live in a fair sized 4 bedroom house but I'm confined to growing in a metre square cabinet in our bedroom  But I don't complain, you have to be careful ;-)

Heres a couple of pics of the old cabinet again, you can see how tight I am on headroom in there. I have 16 bulbs wired in there, mostly 22watts but some 30 watts for a total of just over 350watts.

Hi SICC, thanks for coming, I WILL PM you that 'scone' recipe, apologies but I did forget! They have been very good, 1 scone plus a couple of spliffs = very enjoyable evenings :bigjoint:

Ya man no problem. I like watching your journals. Mine will no longer be updated due to security issues here on RIU. Somone in my state got busted through this site. I'm only doing posting on other peoeples thread from now on. I'm too paranoid to post pics and also I got a kid on the way. I'd be crushed to be locked up during the birth of my child.

Yea i heard about tat GFK, one of the main on biggest one who got caught had a actualy website that he showed his plants and himself in pics, he was open growing which got it him caught, but i totally understand gotta play it safe, but i kno where you coming from, gotta play it safe, and congrats on the kid :peace:

Im loving that cabinet haha, it is really stealthy, and like you said it fits in really good with the room, and thanks for the Recipe, its no big problem, when ever you got time, i would appreciate it :)

Sorry to read that GFK, but you are right, you need to take care. If you could PM me some quick info on what happened I'd appreciate it please? having been through the arrest/house search procedure once myself in the past I know from experience its no fun! Thats the reason I keep things very small scale now days.

UPDATE DAY 7 of 12/12.

Yesterday watered 700ml each, PH 6.4, bubbled for 3 hours before use. Fed Bio Bizz grow at half strength. The soil has slow release nutes (Westlands advanced), so I dont want to overdo it.

This morning misted as usual but with 5ml of SMC (spider mite control) leaf wash added to bottle. This is preventative only.

Next watering will be on Saturday (4th day).

Pics just taken at lights on after a fine mist of SMC.

i was wondering where your old thread went!! i shall be following;-)

Hi tamjam, thanks for coming :-) we're not too far apart in our flowering dates now, I'm at day 8 (I think!) 12/12.

Couple more quick shots of the development. The 2 that I topped now have 6 each of good strong shoots. The shorter one that I left is also looking nice I think. Inter-nodal spacing is pretty good too, stayed nice and tight.

I'm considering taking the 2 lowest shoots of the biggest plant for cuttings, not sure yet, I'll give things a few more days yet :-)

UPDATE DAY 12 FLOWERING.

Growing nicely. Feeding lightly this grow, I want these to finish in good healthy condition :-) Just 4ml of Bio Bizz today in 2 litres of water PH'd to 6.4. Shared between the 3 plants.

Shot of the cabinet here too, its tight but JUST managable with 3 small plants kept short.
