This thread is inspired by SICC's 'Party cup grow' thread! I had a spare feminised mazari seed (from seedsman) and decided to try and grow a small mother plant in sphagnum moss in a tiny bonsai style container. The moss holds water amazingly well yet it also allows the roots to breathe. There are no drainage holes in the container which used to hold a bonsai bamboo plant but I lost her
Lets see what this moss can do as a grow medium?
Heres the moss, its lovely stuff and never seems to dry out completely so I shall have to be very careful with my watering. Its widely used to grow Orchids in.
First pics taken day 1. 18/11/09. You can see the seed has cracked and has now been slightly buried in the moss. This plant will veg away under a single 6500 CFL. I'll update a couple of times a week with pics.
I'll also dedicate this thread to 'shaggy' of the old HG420 forum who had the most amazing collection of 'bonsai mothers' in 4" pots...... I always wanted one! Anyone else here see them?
