Marylands med laws

For those who aren't aware Maryland has a law regarding medical marijuana that basically states that if you're busted in possession of it and prove you need it for medical reasons you can get all charges dropped and simply be fined $100; similar to a traffic ticket. This doesn't include cultivation or sales, just possession. In other words, its a bullshit law because obviously you have to commit a crime in order to possess it. (I.E. purchase it or grow it which isn't covered by the law.)

I'm curious about what would happen if one took the medical route if busted anyways for cultivation. I have a doctor who recommends it in writing and I'm sure there are a lot of others who have the same in MD. Is anyone aware of any cases in MD where a grower used a medical defense after being busted for cultivation? Maryland has a minium mandatory sentence for over 50lbs but if you stay under that amount its entirely up to the judge how much time you spend. (0-5yrs max)
