im for marijuana and everything, been smoking for about 10 years.

but do we want that many more people starting fires cuz they are stupid and try to grow in there homes?

if there is a tax on per plant basis, is that a good idea? i mean, how much tax do you have to pay to make your own gallons of beer, grow your own tomatoes, lettuce, apples... nothing... should it be regulated THAT much?

i have never heard of anyone proposing that the non-commercial home grower be taxed... it is only if you intend to sell - then you need a license just like for beer, tomatoes, etc..

uh, are you from california? cuz they were originally proposing a $50 per plant tax to cultivate your own. you need a license to sell tomatoes at the farmer market or flea market?

People start fires all the time while cooking dinner. Should we all eat at restaurants instead?

well, i guess homes usually must have certain standards to meet for electrical. when you build a home, an inspector from the city must come and make sure the electrical is done properly. when people are setting up grows, im sure many people will be ignorant and plug a million things into one non-surge protecting power strip. maybe your partially right though, but this would be more electrical rather than some fire started by accidently leaving a skillet on or spilling oil and grease

One cannot become intoxicated from Tomatoes. As a result, less regulation is required.

When was there ever Tomato Prohibition?

I must have missed that day it was covered it in history class.

Over half the embedded cost of a bottle of whiskey on a shelf in the liquor store is tax. Then additional sales taxes are paid at the point of purchase.

Meanwhile individuals may brew beer, make wine, even make whiskey in their own still without interference from the government; unless they sell it.

There is no reason to believe it will be any different once cannabis Prohibition ends.

people have to pay taxes to sell there home made wine at the farmers markets?! wow, thats pretty gay. i lol'ed at you missing the day in class.

just read this :
Back to your question, however. Technically anyone over the legal drinking age in their state (in the US) may make up to 200 gallons (757 L) of wine per year per household and not have to report anything to the government. That’s about 3.3 barrels, 83 cases or almost 1,000 bottles;

however this is until you sell it. thats a lot of wine for personal use. you think that the atf will become the watf, and when you start selling weed, like alcohol, you have to apply to them first?

Anyone making and selling homemade spirits outside of the regulatory process is violating any number of federal laws.

Personally, I've never seen such a thing at a Farmer's market.

And yes, the limits set for people producing their own alcohol might seem arbitrary. 200 gallons of wine is a lot. But most home brewers and vintners make enough for their own consumption and to give away. Just because you are allowed to make 200 gallons of wine does not mean you have to do so.

Anyone who chooses to grow cannabis for sale will be required to jump through regulatory hoops, and that is understandable.

With legitimacy comes regulation and taxation.

Johnny's on point with this. It will be regulated just like every other industry and California is basing their bill on the alcohol, wine specifically, industry.

People burn their houses down for a lot of negligent reasons. Falling asleep with a lit cigarette, leaving Christmas tree lights all night on a dry tree, oil spill while cooking, by trying to conceal grow operations, and so on. Think about it like this. If marijuana is legal there's no need to hide the grow op and you can call in an electrician to do things correctly without worrying about going to jail.

i grow and smoke bud, but i dont think that it should be completly legal, if we do this we are giving the goverment control over this, as we have had to do with tabacco and beer, and look what they have done with that, every time our country needs money they raise the taxes on those things and feed off people addictions which is what they are planning on doing with weed, decriminalize it yes, but dont give control of it to the goverment or we are going to find ourselves paying out the ass for anything to do with growing or smoking it

very true. maybe it wont be so bad then. i did see the latest thing thats supposed to be on the bill is a 5x5 or 25 sq ft of plants instead of $50/plant. so maybe this was fixed as well. very good points made though. thanks for clearing up. wasn't looking for an argument, just for things to be cleared up. :D thanks

If you don't think the government has COMPLETE control now, I want some of what you are smoking.

If you doubt what I say; plant a garden full of cannabis in your front yard and get back to me...

In ten to twenty years.

yea i still think that side is kinda messed up. although weed does intoxicate you unlike tomatos, i think it should be dealt with more like a produce. id loove to be able to grow and bring buds to the farmers market. the farmers market in everyones local area would probably be a lot bigger cuz of weed. imagine how many new friends us weedees would gain, the knowledge we could pass on and gain through these people we meet after it become legal. although im not 100% about the whole legalization idea, i still can't wait. i would love to open up a weed bar.

You're 100% free to grow your own tobacco and brew your own beer if you don't want to buy those items at the store.

Nothing wrong with a healthy and constructive debate. :)

I disagree. As long as you grow it for personal use, you won't have to pay much. Make your own seeds etc. Just keep it personal, fuck buying pot at the store

this is what i been saying.

im glad you see this.

come on guys...the guy im quoting has a good point.

if you vote to legalize it you will later regret it when you pay through the nose for it. decriminalize but dont make it legal unless you wanna basically hand over all your $ to the government.
