Males in Garden Without Pollenating All

Say you have a garden, and you're ready to flower, watching patiently for the sex to appear. You ultimately want a crop of sensimilla seedless buds, but oh no, then, you see a few males... Do you chop the boys down? No, YU WANT the potent kind bud's genepool to stay alive because there aren't any more seeds left from that yummy strain! What do you do? :joint: :joint: :joint:

Get some sandwich bags without ziplock... take a baggie and put the male flowering node inside there.. use a twist tie to seal the male pollen off from rest of the grow room. Voila! The male parts will still grow and spew the pollen only JUST inside the baggie! Then, you can cut the last nodes off and save em still in the baggie in the refrigerator! That's the easiest and quickest way to save an awesome genome, so you can store or save pollen... to cross it later of course with 1 or 2 female buds... all without completely cutting down the male essentially losing great genetics! Think outside the box...

How's that sound to you?

It sounds very interesting, power! And I think it just might work. You would have to do a hell of a pruning job, making sure to leave some of the leaves in place for that last bit of effort the male will need to exert in order to bust his sacks open. Your timing would definitely be the most important part. It seems to me, and I may be wrong, that you would need to put the "condom" on right before the sacks opening and releasing thier pollen. You wouldn't want the bag to stay on for too long, maybe it could mess with the plants CO2 intake on the branch you bagged? I dunno, maybe not. if you left enough leaves in other spots maybe they could make up for it. but for how long?

The reason I am wondering is because I am in a similar situation, and I want to make sure I don't mess up my potential fathers. I was thinking about taking my breeders and moving them outdoors untill the end of the season, letting them revert back to veg, I would also be able to take clones off them. Anyway This would work, plus It would allow me to crossbreed my indoor and outdoor seeds, perhaps creating G13 Haze hybrid I could grow outdoors here. I have outdoor plants in my indoor garden too though, Blackberry to be exact. Up until I read this, that was the only way I could think of. Still don't know though, I have 7 possible crosses if I wait till the fall harvest, and only 3 if I do it indoors in the middle of the season... So thats more chances of hitting the genetic jackpot... Fuck, I dunno what I'm gonna do about that, lol! I think I wan't the selection, but I might do one "dad" this way, just to get a quick seed run and preserve some genetics.

yeah you wanna get em oiut of your flower room and basically do what you said save the flowers and brush the pollen on lower buds with a smakll paint brush or something or scrap themand take clones from the early flowering girls

Yeah, I have some seeds still for the next run, I'll be fine waiting till fall. I think it will be worth the wait if I just take all my moms and dads out of the growroom. They should revert back to veg at this point in the year, right? this will be in less than 3 weeks, as I am gonna start flowering within a week. So as long as they will go back into veg then I will have 7 different varieties come fall, and thats alot more selection for making crosses.

only thing I am noticing is they get a lot of humidity in the closed bag... maybe a better bag would be to use a bag with very small holes in it/// like a tea bag or something.. any ideas? because they still need to breath probably.... and I dont have the time to sit and wait until they almost open to put the condom on ;)

well I just made a small hole on the top of the baggies so u can blow fresh co2 into them... maybe I should try this technique on a female bud to have a self contained co2 layer... hmmm new thread?! haha.. let's search on it..
