Making C-Juice

Hello all,

I have been tinkering with the idea of making my own C-juice.

I am not sure what else to call this, but it’s basically the cannabis version of E-juice.

I have thought about using E-juice mixes, without the nicotine, but I am hesitant on ordering because I am not a nicotine smoker and I am not sure how much cross contamination occurs with the companies that offer custom mixes (I have images of this dirty bench lined with bottles and some dude who didn’t wash his hands and isn’t wearing gloves mixing up E-juice), so I don’t want to end up with a mix that has even the slightest amount of nicotine (funk, etc…) in it.

I am being paranoid, but this is one of the reasons why I smoke CBD and a little THC, so things like this don’t drive me to the loony bin…

Typical E-juice ratios are like 50/50 VG/PG, 70/30 VG/PG..

PG, Propylene glycol, is cheap and has a slight warming effect on the tongue. It is used in “warming” lubes. Some people have noticed that higher ratio PG mixes can cause heartburn.

VG, vegetable glycerin, is cheap, has a slightly sweet taste and is what is responsible for huge clouds of smoke.

PG and VG also mix well together…

In a 2017 study in Australia, they found that E-juice mixes with higher amounts of VG can cause “almost” as much lung damage as traditional cigarettes, whereas PG dominate mixes showed “only a small impact” on lung health, so this is also something to consider.

Typical C-juices also include Peg200, and Peg400.

The studies on these haven’t been published yet as far as I know, so these may be or may not be ok…

Flavors, these, like the Peg200 and Peg400, have not had lung health studies done on them. There are so many flavors and the formulas for them are so varied I doubt we will see any significant studies for a while. Propylene glycol being the main “flavor carrier”

Another flavor solvent is Triacetin, which has been shown to not have significant lung effects, but this carries a whole new set of issues as it is less soluble in other solvents like propylene glycol and over time can separate out. Then there is the fact that this is plasticizer, so it means you cannot store it near rubber (like in a dropper bottle) or the rubber will break down.

I am a total cheapskate and I think c-juices on the market are so completely overpriced it’s not even funny.

The one I have tried is WAX Liquidizer, it’s a great product, but at $20 for 15ml, it would be so much cheaper in the long run to buy the VG/PG/Peg200/peg400 and make my own…

I am just not certain about the ratios….

I do know it is heavy on the VG and PG because I tasted the liquid and it reminded me exactly of this product called “Oil of Love” by The Kama Sutra Company, which is basically VG, PG, water, and flavor.

I am half wondering if a 100ml ($20) bottle of this “Oil of Love” would work as an E or C-juice.

I have read that Peg400 thins out the extracts perfectly and doesn’t separate but it has terrible hit qualities, so I assume this is used sparingly, 10% or so.

I have yet to hear anything about Peg200 and I am curious what others have to say.

My current thoughts are that the liquidzier is something like

VG 32%

PG 33%

Peg400 10%

Peg200 10%

Flavor 15%

I have nothing against WAX Liquidzier, their product is fine, but it’s just super over priced…

Besides price, if I had to make one complaint it is that the bottles ship only with dropper caps, which seem to breakdown over time and I don’t want to be smoking rubber…

I have priced the WAX liquidizer raw materials out and the cost of the product is like $2.00 (this if I were to buy all the supplies retail).

Here’s a cost breakdown:

VG $0.09

PG $0.10

Peg200 $0.13

Peg400 $0.13

Flavor $0.50

Bottle/with dropper $1.05

Total: $2.00

As you can see, if you re-used your own bottle and didn’t add flavor, the mix would cost less than 50 cents.

So that means when you buy their 15ml bottle for $20, literally $18.00 is going toward the label on the bottle, admin costs and advertising…

One last note, I took the WAX liquidizer and I mixed it 50/50 with vegetable glycerin and put it in a cartridge to see how it vaped.

I have no idea if this will mix well or stay mixed with extracts, but the liquidizer and VG mixed at room temp and have stayed mixed.

The WAX liquidizer and VG is crazy!!!

The vape is like a fog machine and it has a very sweet taste to it.

The warming effect is completely gone, it just has a VG like mouth feel now.

Mouth hits are fine, but lung hits feel a bit “boggy” and heavy and cause me to choke a bit, like I am taking in water.

So what do y’all say, as a Rollitup group effort, let’s make some c-juice!!!

I am down for some experimenting…

Let me know what y’all think…

Update….

After doing some research I have discovered I am wrong about what I thought the Wax Liquidizer formula is made of…

The company says they use a mixture of PG, Peg 200, and Peg 400…

This would explain how thin it is…

So the formula breakdown I think they are using is something like this

PG 65% $0.23

Peg200 10% $0.13

Peg400 10% $0.13

Flavor 15% $0.50

Bottle/with dropper $1.05

Total: $2.04

I also think there is a little triacetin in there, but I am not sure how to tell how much. The reasons I suspect it is in there is because when it is mixed with VG the mix separates and the rubber stopper on my bottle has begun to gum up and this is something triacetin will do. But considering how long it has taken to gum up, I don’t think there is much in the mixture. It is probably there to help make the flavor more intense.

I have recently been having issues with this liquid. I recently changed vape pens and the mixes with the Wax Liquidizer just run out the bottom of the coils and flood the battery.

In all fairness I use twice the amount of Wax liquidizer then they suggest because I like to dilute out my THC containing liquids (my CBD pen hasn’t changed). This gives me more control over the high and instead of getting suddenly high, followed by the mellow mid period (my favorite part) and then the drop off after a few hours, I can take a hit every 15 minutes or so and keep the mellow mid part of the high feeling going for hours…

The fact that the liquid is so thin and considering that it contains two weights of Polyethlyene glycol (Peg200, and Peg 400), which has a tendency to “self-siphon”

Example:

I think this is what has been causing my tanks to flood into the batteries.

So to test my idea, I siphoned off one of the tanks that was flooding and I mixed in an equal amount of Vegetable glycerin and then heated it for a moment and then stirred it very well…

Then I filled the vape tank once more.

One note…

As soon as the mixture cooled it separated…

This and one other thing (the rubber stopper lid gumming up on the bottle) leads me to believe that there is something else in this formula that Wax is not telling us about, like triacetin, which doesn’t mix well with vegetable glycerin and will degrade low density plastics like the rubber stopper.

It is probably only added in at like 5% or less as an enhancer for the flavor.

I have nothing against the triacetin, it is very safe to use (NASA has considered using it as foodstuff), so I am not complaining, I just wish they would let people know.

If Wax is using triacetin and you have plastic parts on your vape pen, your cartridge may be slowly dissolving into your vape liquid which you are then you are inhaling…

Something to consider.

So, anyway, the re-batch containing the vegetable glycerin, hasn’t flooded the batteries (there are a few tiny drops of fluid inside the battery area about the same as in my CBD pen which uses a thick fluid). I have been hitting on this vape quite a bit, even though the juice is separated, the point is about the vape pen leaking, which it seems to have stopped doing.

The coil doesn’t pop as much either, before it was popping like crazy and spitting fluid into my mouth…

This is what I observed.

If someone else has any information to offer that would be helpful I am all ears.

Let the juice cool completely before adding to tank. Make sure everything is screwed down tight. Too much air pressure can weigh your juice in the cartridge down and cause it to leak. If you aren't happy with wax liquidizer try vapeur terp. They advertise on this site and use a different kind of emulsifier.
