MAJOR hermie problem

The last time I grew, I had a major hermie problem. I mean 50% of my plans went hermie. What causes this? What did I do wrong or better yet what can I do to prevent this. I ended up with seeds galore. The hermies were so bad that there was male parts smack dab in the middle of the bud. Is there any chemical I could use to ward this off. What kind of mistakes could cause such a massive infestation of them?

Bad genetics bro, stay away from wherever you got your seeds from last time, don't use the seeds you got from your hermie plants. There are no chemicals that will reduce it, stress might induce an already hermaphroditic plant to show its nuts.

The four main factors (in order of importance).

1. Good seed genetics. (avoid bagseed)
2. No light leaks.
3. Acceptable temperature range.
4. Let the plant grow in veg for at least 25-30 days. (applies to seeds rather than cuttings)

Pay attention to these four things when you grow, and hermies wont be a problem. :)

I am thinking I might be having all of those problems. It was cold for my last grow. I think I may have had light leaks at the door. But the light outside of the door was not too bright. But who knows, I am newbie at this.

So there is nothing I can add to my mixture that can ward this off?

no, you cant prevent hermies using chemicals. The best bet is to buy some decent genetics, then you are starting with lower risk plants. You only need to keep the plants warm for the first few weeks of life, after that lower temperatures wont do the plants any harm as long as its not proper cold.

The temp was about 65. I also vegged for 24/0. Do you think this might have caused an issue too. I was told it was fine to veg for 24 and the person who advised me did not have the same problems I did. In fact same seeds between the 2 of us.

yeah vegging under 24-7, is fine. It sounds like the light leaks might have been your problem, if your sure it wasnt the genetics.

I can't be sure of anything. Can one hermie spread it to another non? Because by the time I found it, it was too late. But then even more started to develop the traits.

No, one plant cant spread it to another, but if all the plants are showing hermie traits then you must have light leaking into your grow area during the dark cycle.

Ok, then I have to build my room in a different way that will seal it better against light. I hope this stops my hermie problems. It killed me to see them all go to seed.

Thanks swansong for the advice.
