Lower Leaves Turning Lighter Green

So my plants are now about 12-14 inches tall. I notice the lowest set of fan leaves are now a lighter green and are becoming slightly less perky. I was thinking this might be from light getting blocked from upper leaves. Is this normal? The rest of the plant is growing great. And they're definitely not yellowing or browning or anything.

Its hard to say without a pic! Even with a pic you should take the advice with a gain of salt. There is a lot variables many things could of cause your problem.

Not enough of light
Ph issue
under feeding nutrients
Could be halfway through flowering

Good luck!

Yeah sorry for the lack of picture. Not at home at the moment. Under feeding sounds plausible. They had a bit of nute burn a week and a half ago so I scaled back the nutes. They're in a 4 sq ft area with a 400 w MH a foot above them so I think they have enough light. PH is steady at 6.0

If there are big leafs above them blocking out light, then it could cause the leaf to die. Or it could just be lacking N

I agree with all of that, except for being halfway through flowering. If you give your plants what they want and need then you wont get yellowing. There are some strains that will yellow no matter what you do, but in general your plants only yellow when you deprive them of something they want. There is no reason for your leafs to turn yellow due to what stage the plant is in.

yeah, its normal as the upper leaves block the light to the lower the plant will push more of its "juices" into those upper leaves making a darker leaf, this increases the efficiency of light absorption, the lower leaves will eventually whither as they are less needed, however they are still working and providing nourishment.

Thanks guys. I'll get a pic in a couple hours when I get home. Like I said though, its not yellow, just a lighter green and its not spreading from one part of the leaf, the entire leaf is changing at the same time. Also, the leaf is just a little limp like if it was overwatered or something. Its not curling or wilting really.

K. Here are the pics. Any info would be appreciated.

And they're not usually droopy. I just transplanted them about 30 minutes ago from a 5x5x5 pot to these 8 x 9 x 9 pots. I plan on trimming the pots down a bit more so that it doesn't have the lip like it does now.

Yeah that just looks like it's not getting enough light. You can either get some CFL in there to add some light to the lower branches or you can LST your plant so the lower branches get more light.

I'm going lack of nutes.

I've got 2nd node 3 blade leaves covered by such thick growth they are practically in the dark and they are still green.

Of course the top has a 400w MH 8" away lol.. you do need more light overall.

Could it be a combination of both ya think? I upped the nutes since it's now week 3 and I've been using the "seedling" amount since I began.

I have some cfl's that I was looking to put up, but it didn't seem to make much of a difference (had it installed on wall pointed towards lower growth). But could that just be because of the more powerful HID up top? It looked like I hadn't turned anything on. I'm planning on getting an HPS light in the next few weeks to run both during my entire grows. Would that help? It would also be a 400w.

Also, my plants do fine (heatwise) when I lower it like 6-8 inches (the room is very cool, there's an AC right there) from the top. But it seems like the plants on the ends of the tray don't get enough light that way. I was able to have it that way when they were in smaller pots

Hm. Maybe I'll just get my HPS light sooner.

I was looking up how to LST my plants, but I don't know how I'd anchor the hooks in the hydoton. More light just seems like the better solution in general.

hey man.....first off...don't get all freaked or anything. My plants have looked like that before and they will be fine. It looks like you could probably bring that light down about 6 inches or so in my opinion. I put my 1000 watter about 10 - 12" from the tops of my ladies....put your hand at the top for 30 seconds and if it doesn't start burning then the plants will be ok. Make sure you have a fan on them at all times too....cuts down on heat and mold. Be careful on the nutes....you don't want to burn them. Go 1/4 strength until you figure out if it needs more or less then you can dial it in that way...go up to 1/2...then more if you think they can take it. Some plants just can't handle full throttle nutes.....i would suggest Superthrive if you are not using it. Good luck

Thanks! The only problem with bringing the light down is that the plants on the ends are left with very little light

with only one light I suggest that you try LST or Scrog methods. That way you can bring it down as close as possible without losing the light for the lower growth. good luck
