low quality seeds to better buds

Hi guys, total noob here.

I have seeds from low quality weed, which i want to plant. Should i expect higher thc levels with a good care?
 
depend on what was the father plant or hemie seed and when was the bud harvest maybe was havest too early and not enough trics
 
you could, but dont expect anything. low grow low results. it never turns out like what you want to see. let it grow and give it more time. save 75 and get better seeds. its worth it. look into white russian if you want to see big buds. or get something thats fast. you have to search for what YOU want in bud. just remember growing low grade is the biggest pain because they have really bad genes it is difficult to get them to produce even simple stream line colas. if you do though, wrap a piece of string around it and tie it to a side of the container. give it light in all the right places and you can have good weed.
 
Yes...under proper care all weed has the potential to b good smoke.... some better than others obviously but ibdont think anything actually comes off a plant straight swag....I'd say it becomes swag after poor care
 
I would say it depends on your definition of "low quality." Are you talking about a little flat black bean from some middle school brick? or some nice low-grade cali, which is actually $50/8th everywhere else, or perhaps some Midwest mids which usually seems to be whatever commercial growers in Minnesota or Chicago messed up. But yes, if you compare the end result from an inexperienced/first time/commercial farmer they are usually (Not always) lower yield and/or quality (thc levels, bag appeal etc) than someone who takes their time and really does it right.

Kinda.. I would say you could give the most talented farmer some ditch weed, and there's not much you can do. Genetics, Genetics, Genetics..

i would love to say all the time yes. but some harvest swag grows swag. the plants almost refuse to do anything in comparison.
 
If the original smoke was low quality because it was harvested at the wrong time, dried incorrectly, cured incorrectly (or not at all), etc, then growing that seed under better conditions and paying attention to the time of harvest, drying and curing, etc, should get you better smoke from those buds than the bud you found the seed in.

But, if the weed has bad genetics, then it has bad genetics and proper growing can only yield the best that the bad genetics can offer.

IMHO, all weed is probably decent, if not better than decent, if grown, harvested and dried/cured correctly.
 
^^ and that's one myth I plan on breaking as soon as I can get back to WI for a week or so. I was thinking about that same thing as weed grows everywhere out there in ditches and the sides of fields. I'm going to be attempting to get seeds and plant knowing they will be completely shit ditch crap. I'm sure over the growth cycle and taking cuttings and dividing out the flourishing cuts from the not so flourishing, you will end up with a few that seem to just explode in growth. Those will then become the moms and we will see just how good ditch weed can be made if time is given to it to bring it around.
 
Ditch weed can not be more than ditch weed with out breeding for generations.

If you give ditch weed that does not get you high perfect conditions you will get very healthy ditch weed plants that do not get you high.

The genetics are the ceiling. You can not make a plant "better" than the genetics allow, without selectively breeding.


Jogro, a smart guy, has grown some Mexican brickweed seeds with great success. The plants look great and all, but even he would agree you can't do better than is what is in the seeds' dna.
 
Not arguing with anyone. Buy my first test grow was off of some cheap weed ($150/oz) bag seed. I made all kind of mistakes, largest being way not enough light. I only yielded about an eighth of her but there is no doubt it was better than the bud the seed came out of. Handling, freshness, etc may be why. But it was tastier and more potent.
 
Not arguing with anyone either, but I grew bag seed for many years and always got better smoke than the original weed. Often WAY better.

For the simple reason that instead of seedy buds I 1)grew it as sinsemilla, 2) nurtured each plant, 3)harvested at optimal time, and 4)correctly cured.

Any one of the 4 factors should lead to a better smoke and all 4 definitely will. I'm talking about common 70's & 80's bag weed: mex, columbian, jamaican etc.

Sure the ceiling is dictated by the genetics, but most bag weed did not take full advantage of the 4 things I mentioned.

Edited to add: The taste was usually so different on sinsied weed, esp mexican, you would not have known it was the same strain. A lot I think to do with the curing and handling plus the fact it was sinsi and loaded with trichs.
 
The plant will be the same as the weed that gave you the seed. Maybe slightly better with excellent care. But don't expect rocket fuel from rubbing alcohol. Figure it out - that weed made it to maturity under care (even if minimal) and resulted in that pot. Genetics and characteristics do not simply change within a line and certainly not in a single generation.
 
Mexican weed is mostly cured on the ground in the sun. Those are not even close to ideal circumstances.
If you grew out a seed from that and you were at least a half assed grower, you will get better end result.

Why bother? Just order some kick ass seeds.
 
I don't get the point in growing bag seed. Why waste 3 months of your life on some random shit you found in a bag of ok weed.

Agree with this 100% But I think years ago there was so much room for improvement it did not take much to do so. Like Trou says in #15, they just often just chopped it and laid it in the sun before baling it up. I would expect less of an improvement today if you started w/decent smoke with a scattering of seeds in it.

I have not done it for years but in the 70's-80's there was no way to get anything BUT bag seed. Last few years in outdoor grows I have planted some plants started from kick-ass weed w/just a few fat seeds. Nothing wrong there except you will have to cull some boys. Plus it's kinda fun to get the seed for free and see what you can do with it, I've never been disappointed.

I'd agree if you are limited to number of plants, like a smallish indoor grow of a few plants, definitly go for the top of the line seed.
