Well I'm looking to get a edjumacation.. I recently dropped out of my computer science degree program. I was making the grades, just couldn't get into it and honestly... I'm 22 years old and really want to do something with my life I'm passionate about.. I don't have a clue as to what to do with myself for a real career. I work at a Nursing Home and its alright, pays for my life but I want to get into something real... Like most of you I am in love with growing. Thats something i could love being a part of! The college I'm attending has a Organic Agriculture Technician certification and seeing that really has me thinking... Where could I take that and how far could it get me? If anyone has any good info on other degrees, certifications or places to take them, feel free to share and help a lost soul out.

im speaking to you and me at the same time so bear with me. SHUT THE FUCK UP AND DO IT ALREADY fuck who cares how far it will take you. get your tech degree for plants dude. one thing people will always need is food and oxygen and clothes. shit you already know that pot counts for clothes, oxygen, and can be a food by it self.

To be honest you need to establish an income from a traditional source rather than hoping to make a living growing just yet. For now, build your skills and support the reform movement. Once pot is legalized, then there will be a multi-billion dollar gold rush that will help create thousands of good jobs including a great one for you.

Maybe I can work with green houses or something.. Get involved that way so the door will be open in the future... I just don't see making a decent living like that.. But I'm gonna look more into that. Anyone have any career exp with plants in general?

Yes, there are positions available in the horticulture field. It is not easy work. The pay may not be what you want. The satisfaction level can make up for some of that.

I worked for a high-end landscaper she served the ultra-wealthy. She would get $300-600 for installing a flower design in a flower pot, the flower pot was extra. No kidding.

You have to have a good eye for color and form. You can do this self-taught but a degree/certificate helps to make you look more professional.

To be successful you have to be somewhat lucky, look like they expect, not take a lot of shite, and not be afraid to charge. These people do not want to shop with the likes of you or me. Once you are in, they will treat you well, but you are a servant not a friend.

I worked landscape for acouple years, still get a occasional job.. God I can't see me arranging flowers.

Rhino- that's exactly what I was specializing in.

Maybe I should just live frugally with a shitty job and see how far I can take my kickboxing and mma, open a gym someday

I believe the next front for horticultural experts is controlling non-native invasive species.

In my area Phragmites are overtaking wetlands and causing dead zones. As states realize what utter destruction to our ecosystem they will be outsourcing this to experts. And there really are no experts at the moment.

I'm using Phragmites as an example, it is viable in all growing zones. Private wetland owners and hunting parks will need treatments since the animals can't survive in it. Birds can't nest in it since the edges of the stalk are too sharp and will cut their feet. Frogs and amphibians can't survive either. It is a total killer. The worse is that it doesn't need wetlands to survive it will grow anywhere upland, lowland, farmland (out competes most crops), your home garden.

Those that understand and know how the controls work or invents new controls. Will reap a very nice profit. IMHO.

Sounds like you've managed quite a career being surrounded by plants, more important surrounded by something your passionate about... good for you woman.. Yeah that is definitely a niche in the field that could be capitalized on.. Interesting stuff

LOL, just looked at today's paper and it is right there on the front page. First company to specialize in Phragmites worked in my neighborhood.

All that actually is required is a pesticide applicators license and a pesticide license for the company.

It used to work, it seems like everything that I've had access to smoke has been Indica and never Satvia. I need satvia but I'm not in a position to grow right now.

Find a legal state?
Dispensaries are good.

And don't just smoke weed.
Listen to it :D

It's race is older than ours, it's been here longer, it's seen more than you :D

My oldest brother loved what he did for a living and I never found it. I enjoyed working with the landscaper (personal assistant) but disliked her personally. She killed the job for me.

There is huge money in high end hort. To do it you need to rub elbows once you find your patron your set. Soon you will be doing all of their friends pots and gardens. But, you have to have an eye for beauty.

Fin is right, do what you are passionate about.
What are you passionate about?

Besides growing...

Really, I probably need to be in a legal state but I'm not in the position to move right now since I'm in school.
