Long term seed storage

I did a search and admittedly I only went a few pages deep before I started this thread. Just curious on the best way to store seeds for up to a year or longer. I imagine cool and dark with humidity nothing extreme. is there more to it? If so some tips, or a link to a thread would be much appreciated.

I have some in a can in the basement with a desiccant pack, the oldest around 3 years. I am smoking some Barney's LSD that was planted a few months ago. It was at the 3 year point. I have a very dry basement. I hope they keep.

If you only need to store for a year, just in a container in a cool, dark place will do fine. Add some dessicant packs to keep away moisture. Moisture and heat are what you need to avoid.

Ha ha it's easy to forget when they are mostly disposed of!
For even longer term storage, I put mine in paper seed envelopes and in containers with uncooked rice. The containers then go in the fridge. I've popped 20 year old beans using this storage method. The germ rate is lower but you can still coax some to pop!!

I have never done anything special with mine, I keep them in a drawer ... germination rate goes down as time goes on but nothing as bad as some seeds from some of the seedbanks... I can always pop seeds dating back as far as when I started making them 4 years ago.

I would like to know if I ever have something so special that I might want to pop them 30 years from now should I keep them vacuum sealed in the freezer?

Dried and frozen in airtight container they could outlive you. If you are gonna pop em in a year or two nothing special is needed. Some seeds are already old or got heated while sitting in a seed bank somewhere. To be cautious you should refrigerate or freeze all your seeds in case they are already kind of crapped out.
