hi all i am getting my grow room constructed it is going to be 4 feet wide 6 feet long aporx. 8 feet high and iwas wondering would a 400 watt hps be enough lighting for about 6 to 8 plants?

i think it should be fine... maybe get a little bit of supplemental lighting in there as well. or get a 600 watt hps?? maybe a switchable hps/mh

i could do it with a 400w but people will come on and say a 600w would be best. it depends on your budget as well can you afford the electric bill for a 600w. if your short of money go for the 400w.

how much distance should be between each plant for maxium light output on the 6 to 8 plants?

just space the 8 plants as well as you can, and use some mylar as well if your going with the 400w. to get light round your grow space.

use your hand to determine the lights distance, if its too hot for your hand then its too hot for the plants. HTGSupply.com has 400watt HPS's for less than $120, i highly recommend getting a switchable though so you can take advantage of both mh/hps. youll be fine with 8 plants, good luck!
