lil advice for the new guy? pics

hello all. seems my phone wont type caps right now so please forgive me.

i had a bag of random seeds forever and after i found my 2 150w hps bulbs, ballasts, and hardware i thought i would try again 15 years later. to my surpise everything worked perfect. so i read a liitle and did this.

had 12 random seeds from god knows what and i filled up 2 glasses of water and dropped 6 in each glass. i usually put them on a wet paper towel like most do but i saw this cool youtube vid and thougt what the hell.

all 12 germed in 48hrs so i went with it. wet paper towel covered for 2 more days and they were lil plants already. i then put them in solo cups with dirt from a bag i got from summer.

i let them sit and from what i read over watered and provided no nutes....just dirt.

i then transplanted them into random pots i had around the house and a few i left in the cups. i then hooked up 2 cieling tube flo lights 40w and hung about 6 cfl 1600 lumen lights. i figured that was ok....till i started reading. i have since added 5 more same lumens. i had them about 6 to 10 in above the plants and have no lowered them.

a few days ago i picked 3 plants and moved them to another room where i have the 2 150w hps lights. i am giving 24hrs of light to everything right now....3 in the hps room and the 7 or so i have left with the cfl lighting room.

so i dropped the ball a number of times and it seems i cant read enough now that im an old guy that wants to learn unlike my college years of dirt and light only.

i am going to try to put up some pics of my situation with the plants. i have 3 great lookers in the cfl room and i have 1 good one out of the 3 in hps room. the hps plant on the right is stellar but the other 2 are drooping and have exact same probs.

i just used espoma garden tone to feed them a few days ago. i used much less then what they said. then i read the the potting soil i added when i repotted has time released food. so i effed that up pretty good i guess.

i did get a soil test kit and everything but my ph is good. my ph is too high. im about to add vinager to my water (i am watering every 2 to 3 days now) to get ph down.

looking at my plants what is your guess? i germed those seeds like oct 7th ot 8th.

i ordered some seeds and this is my trial run before i start the good ones. next time i will buy the fox farm soil with the perlite stuff. i also plan on getting the 3 bottles from box farmto feed the plants.

i have learned alot from you guys and read many hours worth of info. i have a few more questions if you guys dont mind.

i would like to test my ph in my water. how can i do this

what exact tools do you have for testing

could a few guys that really know their shit give me a list of must haves as far as soil and food goes?

should i add cfls to my 2 hps 150watters?

can i flower 4 plants at a time with the 2 150s?

Lights are fine. I flower six-seven at a time in a 300w CFL tent.

yokel thanks for the link. that is alot to process. how big of an area does your 300w cover? how far up do you have the light from the tops of plants? what type of plants have you grown with sucess with that light?

The plant on the left is moved out of the way to get the one that is missing in the back. It is normally centered like the rest of them.

The way I have my CFLs set up, I basically get 100+ watts continuously across my canopy, because there are always four lights directly next to each other.

This is the most ghetto-ass set-up you could basically ever build, and if I can pull a quarter-pound ever 6 weeks out of this... I am sure you can do this, and so much better!

Edit: I use 200w of 2700k CFLs, and 100w of 6700k CFLs in the flower tent.

I also have 100w of lights off to the side in a separate array over 6 clones that I keep going so I always have new plants to swap in. That's how I keep on a six-week schedule.

You should be good. Try moving the light up a few inches maybe your plants will perk up. Did you check the temp? I think when you get the ph down and everything is normal it should be fine. http://www.amazon.com/General-Hydroponics-pH-Test-Kit/dp/B000BT32UA

i have a cheap digital temp guage and today was the hottest she got at 88f. normal temp was 74 to 79. hps def added some temp to the area. i have a small fan blowing in and a much stronger fan blowing out. air flow is good but with furnace running its adding temp to the room i cant control. the average temp i would say is aboyt 83 84.
