lighting

I know there's a multitude of lighting styles but I have around 2-3 hundred for lighting. I'm gonna have 1-3 plants in a bubbleponics system in a closet. What would be the best lighting system for these plants??

if u have that much money i would look around on the internet for an high pressure sodium set up

How about a switchable 400W ballast and a MH bulb and an HPS bulb ?

For up to $300, I'd go for either a 250w or 400w MH/HPS combo like MoG says, with a vented reflector hood hooked up to an exhaust fan, like this semi-DIY closet exhaust. Don't bother going MH/HPS without some kind of hood and exhaust fan however, temperatures will be way too high and you'll kill your girls.

Otherwise, if you don't wanna stress about temps and you're willing to sacrifice some efficiency and output, you can use an array of CFLs. Use many of them, scatter them closely around your girls. This may be the cheapest option at first, but considering the time it takes setting it all up, managing the canopy, balancing the light distribution, and the myriad of sockets, cords, and bulbs you'll need to pick up, all for a reduced harvest... it may cost you the same or more in the end as MH/HPS.

You might be able to find a good deal on a T5 rig, which are great, more light then CFLs and less heat then MH/HPS, but likely too expensive for your budget.

Cfls sound to be easiest but how many would I need for 4 plants??

i would get a 600wtt or a 1000wt hps.

I actually find HPS to be easiest, but I use a cabinet, so it's easier for me to control my air manifold. The number of CFL's depends on the size of your canopy.

Things to know about lighting

hmm Cfl's would be quite out of hand in wiring for 4 plants. If I get a 400w HPS do I just hang it vertically above the 4 plants?? Sorry for being such a noob to all this haha.
If a 400w hps is optimal where's a good place to get one?

gonna be running a bubbleponics system in a rubbermaid container. It's in a closet so 4W 5L 7H maybe?? Gonna start with 4 northern lights plants for reduced scent.
