i am a newbie at growing under lights and my grow room is about ready and my plants are about 2" high, can anyone tell me when to start them under lights please.
i have a High pressure sodium 400watt lamp.
how high should the light be from the plants to start them off. and should they start at 24 hr cycle.

Put them under the light now. The light needs to be about 2 feet away. Some people do 24/0 others 20/4 others 18/6, you can decide on that one. Good Luck!

Put the lights up now, start with 2 ft 6 inches above and if they do not show burn damage, then lower them to 2 ft even. Look at them very often. If you see burn damage raise them back up.

I'd start them at about 18" away, and test periodically for signs of heat stress, than move the light either down or up........ hopefully down. lol
You may want to get an oscialting fan in there too.
Ultiamtely you want that light about 12" away from your babies. I assume you have suitable ventilation in place.
I would also suggest 18/6. Save your money for other things rather than wasting it on electricity, like some good nutes.
