Lighting schedule

Hey guys,

So my seeds just sprouted and broke through the soil. i was just wondering if i should put them on a 20/4 light schedule now or just keep the light on for 24 hrs. Which would be better for stronger healthier plant growth? also, if i do keep the lights on for 24 hrs, when should i switch them to a 20/4 schedule? The strain is Lowryder #2 X AK47 if that info was needed at all.

Thanks:bigjoint:

Until they have leaves they cant use any of the light to grow, keep watering them and then start your light schedule when their first set pop up

Hello,

I could do with some help please. It's my first grow and I have the girls on a 18/6 light schedule 600w metal halide they have been on this schedule since birth and are 3 weeks old. Could I change to 24/0 or would this be disastrous?

Thanks guys...x

You could, but plants respond well to a rest period from the lights. If you are worried about heat, a small heater on during lights out evens the differential well.

i run 24/0 for veg. no problems at all with no dark period. cuts down on veg time too.

I most always see you putting out good information and I tend to agree with the majority of your posts, so don't take this a challenge, but have you run any kind of side by side with 24/0 and 18/16? I have always been curious about extended light cyles for veg, but like many others I was under the impression that a break from photosynthesis was beneficial. I'm familiar with some of the arguements on both sides, but never saw anything i thought of as definitive either way. I'd love more info!

first off, thanks for the props.
i have not done a side by side. i have run 18/6 and the reason i went back to 24/0 was it was easier to keep temps constant. my temps dropped too much during the dark so my thought was : run a heater or run the lights all the time.
the only science behind it is that cannabis is a C3 plant which does not require a dark cycle.
if i'm not mistaken, cervantes and some of the other "experts" also recommend it.

Perfect explaination.

So basically just less stretch with 24/0?

I was sort of half assed familiar with the C3, C4 differentiation and i knew it was certainly less important to have dark period for C3, but for some reason i was thinking there was more to it than that. I wish i could find the article i was reading, but I seemed to remember some discussion about some secondary biochemical processes that gain nominal benefit from a short dark cycle.

Regardless, I think it is something I'm going to try. Good to know you've had success with it.

much less stretch. and much tighter node spacing too. one old timey grower explained it to me this way; when you have a dark period in veg, the plant stretches towards it's last "known" light source. he said the plant is not growing, but stretching. kinda makes sense in a simple way.

give it a shot with a strain you've done before under 18/6 and see what you think.

Most definitely. The small run I'm about to start is two strains I know pretty well under a light I'm now pretty comfortable with so I'm excited to see the difference. Thanks again!
