Lighting Questions.

I dont want to sound like a total retard, and this isn't my question but what kind of light should i use, im leaning towards HPS lights, but should i get the 400w? or what.... and can i plug a HPS bulb into any female light? CFL's have some crazy fucking light connection... I dnk. Links to what i should get would be helpful, im also wondering, the work lights, the halogens,good, no good?
 
halogens are no good and HPS require a ballast designed for the specific size.
ie: 400 watt HPS only fits a 400 watt hps ballast not a 250 or 600 and not metal halide. the ballasts are very specific.
as for what kind you should get ... what size is your room L x W x H and how many plants t you intend to grow and how tight is you budgest because with HPS you will need ventilation / cooling
 
For now, MAYBE 3-5 plants, depends on how it goes, I'll have a mother, and make clones. im just going to throw it in my basement, and put it under the light, and keep it warm down there, keep my plants under the light(s). I have a small fan that can warm the air that passes through it, or if i dont want it warm, i can keep it room temp.
 
Ok bro, you really need to read this GROWFAQ. Already you are very confused about what to do. First off, CFL lights fit in regular bulb sockets, no special anything required, second, HPS will not work in any of your light fixtures, it requires a special mogul type socket and of course a ballast. third, you say you want to keep your basement warm, but MJ likes it somewhat cool. Learn the basics of weed growing before you start.
 
it gets really cold around here, like 10 degrees, when i say warm im talking like 60-70. I've read a LOT about growing. this however was the only thing that im having trouble with. how about i ask this simple question. 4 plants, 5x5 room, 3-5 plants, what type of lights-want to spend up to $50.00 for fixtures/bulbs.....?

look on ebay or craigslist and get the biggest hps system you can for your $50. or buy a bunch of cfl's and cheap fixtures.
 
order 3 or 4 one hundred actual watt bulbs

CFL = screw into a reg light socket
Flor. = need to buy a ballest and bulb
Grow light = need to buy ballest and bulb

for veg a 45w , 6,500k , 3,000 Lum CFL bumb is pretty bright and is good for young plants in a small area
