i have a 1000 watt sun system hood with two bulbs across from each other under it. A 400 mh and a 600 hps. i have 9 ladies and only the 400 mh running and just transplanted to bigger pots. Is that enough light? and if not should or can i switch to the 600 hps while still vegging?

well i turned them both on for now during the last two weeks of vegging but iim thinking of switching to just the 600 hps for flowering

What is the square footage of your grow cage Vtron?

We want 50 watts per square foot of HID for flower, veg is not so important. Download the Equipment chapter of Weed Science, look in the index for lighting.

The 400 MH is more than enough for veg, I use a 90 LED for the same area.

600 Watts HPS is the minimum for 4' x 3'. Sun System has a great light foot print for a rectangle, I have the Sun System II.

A light mover would benefit even in that small area, 1' - 2' travel: changing the angle and hitting different light receptors; reducing heat stress; high light concentration over different parts of the garden; etc.

If you have a second timer put your 400 W MH on for 4 hours midday, like the bright sun around noon. The plants don't use 12 hours of continuous light effectively, a boost through noon will be like raising their metabolism exercising for an hour and it stays higher all day long.

nice i didnt know more was needed for flowering and i have heard of intermittenly turning on another light . i will turn off the hps and use the mh for veg defineltly to save electricity as for flowering i will try your 4 hour method sounds good and alot less electricity than leaveing it on for the 12.
