Lighting for seedlings

I have started my first grow and my box has a 150 hps above my plants and 10 23 watt 6500k cfls around them. I was curious when can I turn on my hps. Can the seedlings handle the hps right away. Thanks

You should wait until the seedlings have a few sets of leaves. They are sensitive at birth and will do fine with CFL only at first. I actually use a 15W tube for getting seedlings started at 24/0. As soon as they pop out of the soil and the root sticks out of the bottom of the peat pot then I put it under a 150W CFL at 18/6. If I wasn't always using my HPS for flowering then I'd use it for veg too, but as it is I just veg with the CFL for 60 days.
