Lighting and vent question

Hey,
Thinking about starting up some ladies again and planning to do a cleaner job than the last time around. In a 5x5 space (heigh 7ft) would it be wise to have just one exhaust running from end of reflector sucking in through filter and bulb? How much CFM would you suggest with a 600w hps?

thanks!

Will be starting a grow journal as soon as its up and running with some chocoloco, lsd, and grapefruit

i would just like to know if it;s sufficient to replace the air in the space by just exhausting through filter and reflector and how much cfm should the fan be?

6" hole < fan < reflector and bulb < filter <~~~~~~~

are you using a reflector that connects to the ducting (cool tube) ?
are you using a tent that you want to keep closed
or is it an open space around the plants

1 extractor fan is enough, you will want a floor fan to blow air around the plants
and maybe another floor type fan to blow at the light this can reduce the canopy heat a great deal or blow it a few inches above the tops of the plants to keep the heat
down around the colas

5x5 would need a little more light, than a 600
but you can get away with it

i would use 2x 400 or 1x 1000 in that space with at least 6 inch boxed fan 700+ m3/h 400+ cfm
i would prefer the 8 inch fans myself but if you are restricted to a 6 inch hole

I haven't built the space yet but i was thinking of putting up walls with a door and i figure 5x5 would give me some room to move around.. i understand 600w only covers about 3x3 (or 4x4?) but keeping the light as close as possible to the plants and it should be fine, no?

I don't plan on getting multiple lights as i will only be doing a few plants at a time, if you have any suggestions on how big i should build it for just 1 light please do share!

I've used cool tubes in the past and i could never get rid of hot spots. so this time around i've decided on an boxed hood with flexible ducting... i was looking at the adjust a wings but i think it might cause too much heat..

I'm basically trying to make as few holes as possible

please share your opinions!

thanks for the reply

you should be fine with the 6 inch fan with just one 600. might get away with no ac if temps don't climb to high for ya in summer months.

if you are setting up a 5x5 area that would be 25 square feet. a 600 watt HPS gives out what roughly 90-95k lumens. At 90,000 that would be around 3,600 lumens per square foot. That is def not enough for flower but ok(? for some) for veg. But you should still need more. I would go with a 1,000 watt or 2 x 400 watters or ever better 2 x 600 watters. That way you can spread the light out as you need. All depends on how you plan on growing. Just a regular old let emm grow or a scrog, or what not. But def need more then 1 x 600 for a 5x5 unless you have supplemental lights available.

For the CFM. I like to always go double what the room size is. I like the dimmer switches for that. So you have control over it all. 5x5x7=175 cubic feet. I would go with at least a 300 CFM booster or the alike and control it with a thermostat or a dimmer switch. But that my just be me. You can prolly really get away with a 240 CFM with no issues. Possibly ever a 200 CFM fan depending on how you set up your lights.

Your thoughts?

I might be missing pieces of information as it has been a while since my last grow so please bare with me

Ive decided on a 5x5 thinking the 2 extra feet on each side would give me some room to work in, putting the pots on a 3x3 table and having the light as close as possible but im thinking now i would lose light on the sides if it had to travel 2 extra feet before hitting the mylar so mayve i should just design a smaller room and do my wiggling outside of that area... my main thing is i dont want more than 1 hps... as for the veg room i had the same 5x5 dimensions in mind where i would throw in as many cfls (200w are cheap for me) as i could

Good info for the cfm thanks. Leads me to another question, where would i stick the fan? At the exhaust hole or have ducting running from exhaust to light then fan and filter?

So my idea might be ass backwards, how would you design a room to work with only 1 hps?

Thanks!

5X5 is great. Loads of room to work with. But I would go with a 1000w HPS. 5x5 is MAX for a 600w. But is doable. But for bud density and lumen ranges I would do with the 1000w. However the 600 would work depending on high high your table was for better light penetration. But a few hanging or tube light s and problem solved. Another problem woudl be though if using a table is how much head space are you loosing as you want your light high enough not to burn your plants. 600w you will get closer the the 1000w. So a table might not be needed if you are using the 1000w.

As for fans. I always like to pull threw rather then push. Seems most fans are better at pulling air then pushing. But others do it the other way. I personally have found you do not get that vaccum blow when sucking as you do with pushing. So I would place it at the exit and and pull air if your using a can filter. Also a small oscillating fan to blow over your babies would be good as well for stem strength and heat dispersion. Just so there is no hanging air.

Kinda of an idea of how the light works and how much you lose at a certain distance from the light. Of course the closet the better.

Hope i didn't miss anything.
