Lighting and smell questions, help plz, need to flower soon

I have a buddy who will turn his lights off and leave his plant in darkness for a couple days before putting them on a 12/12 cycle. i have never heard of this, but his plants seem to do well. i was wondering why this would help, and should i do this with my plants?

and i was also wondering how bad two MK ultra plants would stink? i have a house with roommates who don't care, my concern is my neighbors?

The dark cycle is suppose to kick start flowering and trigger faster budding. I've tried it both ways and never noticed a difference though. I've never grown MK Ultra, but a good carbon filter should take care of any odor problems.
