Lighting and advice for first grow

Hey everyone, I'm thinking about germinating around 10 seeds for my first grow. The location I've chosen is a closet roughly six 1/2 feet deep, five feet wide, and eight feet high. The problem is that I don't have any start up cash for expensive lights and was wondering if anyone knows of a cheap lighting set-up that has yielded good results. Also wondering if anyone has advice on soil vs. hydroponics on a tight budget.

For Vegging get some cool cfls, they`re cheap .. and save money for the HPS for flowering .. or save a little more for a bunch of warm cfls ..
I cant advise you on dirt cause i`m growing hydro .. anyway its better .. just get a pot , some rockwool , 2 timers , a little pump ,tank for water, make a drip system , nutes ofcourse , and this is it .. simple as that .. thats my opinion .
