I need to get a new light.
At the moment i got a two foot double flo. Its crap
Don"t know what sort to get.
Can" get anything that produce"s too much heat.My grow is in a shed.
What sort would be best ?
This is a small grow only two plants at a time.

well i am doing the same but iver got 12 growing in my shed and 3 in my house
at the moment i am using a 3500 lumens cfl for my babies which are in the shed and they are loving it ( check out my thread https://www.rollitup.org/indoor-growing/84914-white-widow-grow.html
and the ones inside which are nearly finished i have only used 4 100w energy savers and i will admit as sugested by lots they wernt enought for a good grow
i am going to buy 4 - 6 5 foot cfls for the 12 which are in my shed.
how many lumens have u got in total ? per plant.....

I got about 2300 lumens ?
didn"t know about lumens and lots of other stuff till i joined this site.
My plants are growing. But now i"ve realised that they need much more light.
Otherwise i"m probly wasting my time with the set up i got now.
I"ll try to upload some recent pics soon.

well my last grow when i started i was only using 2 100w energy savers and it slowed the growth down alot
just get more light ...

Hi there! I'm new to this as well, but my boyfriend and I have been doing this for about 1.5 months now. After much trial and error, we decided to try out the T5 fluorescents. We were running out of money, and our space is real small, so the heat was a giant factor. The T5's don't get that hot though. We bought a system with 4 - 4' bulbs, and it has 20,000 initial lumen output. So far, so good! Also, it wasn't that expensive, about $130. Personally, I think they're a good choice if you're growing a small crop, as they're bright as hell! Hope this helped!

Thanks for the info. It sounds like your grow is double the size of mine.
I can just fit a two foot flo in there. But thanks anyway :joint:

I just been out to the shop and bought a philips 240volt krypton 100 watt bulb.
It gives out 1550 lumens.
Is this any good.?:-?

When in the shop i seen a 240volt 115 watt cfl bulb.
That only give out 1300 lumens.

I"m out shopping for lumens nowadays lol
My wife thinks i"m fucking crazy.
I had her looking at all the bulbs looking for the one that gives out the most lumens

This site has really got me hooked.:-|

i would recomend just going for an hps. they realy dont cost that much and nothing compares for lumens.a 400 watt has about 40 to 50,000 each. my ballast (used) cost 30 bucks,my 430 watt sun agro hps bulb cost 30 bucks ( new) , my hood was 70 bucks (new)
do you have a 240 volt power source to light that bulb?
what is the kelvin rating on that bulb, i`ll go look for that bulb. never heard of it

Yer man i live in UK so all our household power is 240 volt.
As for kelvins theres " nothing on the bulb or the box.
Pic of the bulb.

kelvins are more important than the lumens for the difference in veg or flower. find the kelvins first then the highest wattage will give the highest lumens. iv`e never heard of these nor seen them. without the kelvins you dont know what colour spectrum it`s for. if the guy at the hydro store sold you that for a grow light i wouldn`t deal with them. personaly i would return it if you can and get something better. spend cheep spend twice

Na not from hydro store from DIY center ?

I"m gonna have to find a hydro store near me :joint:

this is my opinion on the best for your buck from best to least.
hps, mh, t5, cfl`s, flouro tubes. if you can afford it they do sell a switchable bulb or ballast. you use an hps ballast and the bulb switches from mh to hps, kind of expensive but i think the way to go

OK so igot this brain wave on fri night so i went out shopping on sat and bought two 100watt cfl bulbs 1350 lumens each and two bulb holders.
Took down my flo set up took the tubes out and took the cover off.
Drilled two holes in the cover and fitted the bulb holders.
Wired the bulb holders together.
Now i have a two foot double flo with two cfl bulbs all in one.
Two wires coming out of the top with two plugs.
One plug for the flo lights one plug for the cfl s.

If you want to bud weed, I would start lining the walls with 24" t5 flouro lights. You look like you have a dome shaped small shed that would be perfect for that kind of illumination.

You can also go the CFL rout but you will need a bunch for flowering, lots of them strung all over the plant. Think of a lot, more then that.

Also your walls seem white, but not reflective, think about that. Flouro growing is all about maximizing your lumen output, you nee to think how you can futher improve that.

Cheers man i"m a painter & decorator so i will repaint the walls with brilliant white gloss. The paint that is on the walls now is brilliant white satin that was left over from a job so i"m gonna get that sorted.
Do you think another four cfl bulbs would be ok ?
That would take me up to 9400 lumens in total.

you want flat white for paint. you dont add the lumens like that they only cover a certain square footage so you cant just multiply them. i would add as many cfl`s as the heat will allow you to. but nevermind the lumens. get a bulb with the kelvin number around 2700k, that is more important. secondly the lumens will go up with the higher wattage bulb.

and yes those t5 flouro`s are sweet. i`m thinking of some myself. but there only 40 bucks for the whole thing. ( ballast/bulb)

if you get 4 more, put 3 in the back and 3 in the front and leave the flouro tube on top.
any ventalation in there?
