Use the spiral CFL's... 42 watts or higher with Y splitters... about 4 bulbs, 2 splitters... that'll suit you. And it won't be 150 dollars either... and to answer your question about the watts, yes it will.
I considered doing cfls from a hardware store but im not sure on what fittings i would require. I would prefer something that i can plug in and not have to wire to the mains! Can you help out fittings? I would use 4 20 or 25w cfls. That would be equivalent to 400w right?
most of the cfls you can buy at stores will screw into a standered light socket. like any lamp. its only the high watage cfls that need a different socket. just go to the hardware store grab a light socket for building a lamp then compair the size to the bulb. unless the bulb needs an e-40 socket you should be otay. ask the workers at the store if the cfls that they have need a different socket then what you have or if the bulb would screw into a house lamp
Hi, Here i have a light im looking at purchasing. Does anyone have any idea how many lumens this would put out? Also its a 125w, is that actual wattage? Or would it be equivalent to a few 100w incadecents? Bit confused as i see compact fluros that are 20w etc but are actually equivalent to 100w. Just wondering what actual watts this light im looking at would put out. Thanks.
Compare 2 to 200 Watt Compact Fluorescent Bulbs : 1000Bulbs.com
The bulb your looking at is very expensive because it comes with the socket and reflector and all that. That bulb will grow 1 SMALL plant. I would recommend that and a few more smaller CFL's when your plant gets bigger. Also pay attention to the lumens when comparing bulbs. Bulbs really dont "put out" watts, they USE them. They "put out" LUMENS. Thats how you should look at it. But yeah that bulb is like a 300 watt "equivelent"
Also the bulb you are looking at is 2700k which is "warm" light good for flowering, but not as good for vegatative growth. You want like 5000k or 6500k (full spectrum) light ideally.
Keep researching and comparing. Get the right stuff the 1st time!
Good luck!
