Take off the front of the AC unit (behind the filter). You'll see a bunch of white foam, like a foam cooler. This channels the air to the vent locations. Spray that foam with black spray paint.
Next if you're using the corigated slides on the side of the AC unit. Tape cardboard or something similar over the corigated panels.
This should eliminate any light leaks.

Very typical problem when using window bangers.
This is what I make for that out of cardboard and foil tape:
You don't have to foil the whole thing, just the folded in sides
And def don't foil tape the inside lining of the cardboard, that will reflect the light in. But this works.

I have a big ass 24k btu unit but it's nice cuz it slides out of the casing. I caulkd and spray foamed all kinds of seems in it. You gotta get the shell off and really look at it and plan out the best course of action for your unit. I find that where the copper lines go from the front half to the rear half is a very common spot for light to get through. also take off the front cover and caulk up the seams between the case and the unit. and ya might as well clean it all out real good when you're doing all this.

You must be one of those guys that tries to put all the paint on at once. Which leads to runs or in this case will melt the foam.
But applied properly it doesnt.

Thank you, I thought of this, but couldn't really put it together in my mind, but now your photos really help me get the right idea.Very typical problem when using window bangers.

Yeah, normally that would be a thing, but its the Styrofoam inside that the light is leaking through.
