Hey guys a buddy of mines gave two street lamps basically. And I think they are HPS, the bulbs look good they say lucalox LU400. The ballast on the lamp look a bit rusty im afraid to work on it. Im Gonna post pictures of what Im working with. Please let me know if its worth giving it a try.

Well honestly your 400w mag ballasts look really beat up/ the rusted transformers has me a little worried, I wouldn't run them....change out the transformers/capacitors and check all the wiring ends...the ignitor should be good.....buy new 400w hps bulbs, you have no idea how old it is......And no powerconverter/inverter is NOT a substitute to a ballast............good luck

if i were you, id rent or borrow a voltmeter. check that the resistance, current, voltage, continuity and everything are in check. if you arent so mechanically inclined, dont fuck with it. its not worth a fire or any other of the very possibble outcomes of bad equipment. also, cleaning dirt and debris off the electrical connections doesnt just shine it up, it makes better connections. test the resistance before and after, it makes a huge difference.
