Light cycle?

I was thinking about a funky kind of light cycle 8 on, 4 off, 8 on, 4 off.
Think this would cause a hermie? early flower? Better vegging?
Whats your thoughts

I wouldn't recommend it. Couldnt tell you what it would do because I've never tried it, I doubt anyone else has either because risking the crop isn't worth it by any means when you already know what works. My guess is yes it would herme. I do 19 on 5 off veg, 2 day dark period between veg and flower, then 12 and 12 till harvest.

There is a link on it here at RIU
I can't remember the name it's called.
I have to get stoned to remember....:joint:

It's a weird light cycle, they use it in the Green houses

I might try it, I only grow 1 plant at a time. I have a Pineapple Kush vegging which I plan on using as a mother once I see if its a female. Then I may try this in a different box. I just wanted to see if anyone had tried or heard of it being done.

I don't think you should, I have a book
By ed Rosenthal they discuss somethin about flowering, taking about 2 hours for the hormones to actually kick in to produce bud... In Terms of veg I think it would be fine...

I'm only doing one plant at the moment ..check out my first link

i do not think an 8 on 4 off photoperiod will do much, only 4 hours of darkness is nowhere near enough darkenss to trigger flowering the overwheling majority will need 9+ hours of darkness in one period
its rare for plants to flower with less than 18 hours of light, this is limited to autos and some Iranians/ rare sativas etc

the plant on an 8-4 will still receive 16 hours of light in a 24 hour period, i think this would be almost like a regular sunny day that gets interrupted for a few hours (cloud cover)
i think the plant would grow quite normally and would not slow down much either

if you were to give the plant 2 hours on 6 off so that it would recive 6 hours of light and 18 hours of darkness in a 24 hour period
it would still not flower because none of the dark periods exceed 9 hours in one period but i think it would grow slower due to the lack of light overall
i was thinking of an idea like this myself to keep plants "on ice" so to speak so that i could keep many small plants/clones 50+ keep them in a suspended state of veg
then when i need them increase the light and they should grow as normal, unfortunately this is still only an idea not put it into practice yet

Go for it...if it stresses it too much and it self pollenates, you will at least have a forest of beans to use on a regular veg cycle next time :eyesmoke:....and here's another myth buster (for me anyhow)...just like colidal silver stresses a plant so will light cycles...I put an OG #18 into flower, 12/12, for 10 days, then took it and put it in 24/0 for 5 days, then put it back into flower and it hermied/self pollenated, and that's how I grew a crop of OG #18, and not a single one of those beans hermied on me in a regular light cycle...and ALL were females...NOTE: The one bean I started with was a feminized bean to begin with.

I'm not sure its possible during a veg period for the plant to turn hermi, which is a flowering response of sorts
i have never seen a plant in preflower, (late veg) show hermi traits not saying its not possible,
i have only seen plants preflower showing either male or female preflowers

if it turns hermi this happens during a flowering photo period or when the light cycle reaches 9-12 hours of darkness

a true hermi that has both individual male and female flowers from the start of the flower is very rare and is just a natural genetic defect of sorts,
depends what way you look at it , these are not "turned" they just are

i think if it were given a regular dark period of 12 hours to start the flowering response for 4-5 days
then after this a veg period of 18+ hours one day and a flowering period of 12 hours the next day
the plant would be stuck between the 2 cycles on a daily basis i think this would stress it best LOL

Alot of interesting ideas, Im gonna try it as soon as I get the clones off this Pineapple Kush. The idea of getting all feminized seeds interests me. I wonder if it would work from a "regular" female seed. If I could get all feminized seeds, if this process can actually make a self pollinating hermie, This would make seeds easier to get in the US.
It could make it easier to cross different genetics...

That's a good question that I don't have an answer for...lol...I would imagine so because the self pollenation would be on a female  but that just might be my next experiment  ...and people swear by the colidal silver for fem beans but the stress method is free :-P and has worked for me just fine...peace...

I too am in the "do it" camp. I have my whole apartment dedicated to random experiments, so I can't do any more testing currently.

I'd like to see what happens, just because :)

Well, I must hand it to my girl, who is all for my hobby here. This coming weekend, I'm going to be building a flood/drain contraption I have in mind and also setting up my first fem seed/breeding experiment.

Most of our apartment is dedicated to growing, whether it be cannabis or other herbs. She smokes, I don't. She cooks and sells my medibles to friendly medical patients which pretty well pays for my R&D.

Life is good :)
