Lets Debate-To Aero Or Not to Aero..?

ok, im thinking about doing an aero grow, but alot of ppl say stay away from it because of the complexities. ive hear someone say that you need to clean the jets/sprayers two times a week(seems like a dubious statement though.. idk).. aero, when properly setup, is supposed to be the more quickest/efficient means of propagating plants. im also thinking about NFT or E&F..... do you think the yield would be that drastic between aero and the other two methods?

what should i do? any help is appreciated! im just contemplating what to do and i guess need some nudging.

I went Aero two years ago and have never looked back. The growth is explosive compared to the DWC setup I was using before.

Whom ever said that you have to clean your sprayers twice a week is full of BS. I've had the same sprayers for the entire two years and have never replaced or cleaned them. I've cleaned everything else after each grow though. Just be sure to use nutrients that won't block up the sprayers. I use Pure Blend Pro and CalMag with no problems at all.

Aero is more sensitive to your enviornment, so temperture is very important. Remember, in aero, the roots just hang down into the air ... so too much heat is a no-no.

I can't say much about the particular plant you are growing but as far as aero growing "normal" plants the difference is night and day and over all its less maintenance. I have 2 setups right now that are aero, one uses a drip irrigation manifold to pipe nutrients directly into the roots and it has an aquarium bubbler on it. The other sprays a jet of water directly into the bottom of the net pot. In the latter rig I have seen EXPLOSIVE tomatoe grow and actually have to cut back dramatically. Right now is really just kinda practice for me, so I can learn the ins and outs of the whole setup.

ya, where do i sign up at? :) lol thanks for stopping by shenagen. ya some amazing things can be done with ebb and flow, i just finished reading al b fucts 70 some odd page thread. very inspirational, and getting a harvest every two weeks in pretty convincing. E&F is very simple too, not too much to fock up. i just need some nudging. what are your yielding as far as grams per watt per 2 months?

hey vi thanks for stopping by with your kind words. im currently using GH flora series with soilless mix( what a pain the the arse. ) these nuts should do the job, no? if i am to do aero, it will be a homemade unit using 6" pvc pipes, so the roots wont "hang down into the air" more than 3 inches or so :( what are you yielding in grams per watt per 2months?

actually al be fuct, i THINK, said that you have to clean them every 2 days or so..... its such a long thread, maybe i misread it or something and i hope im not misquoting him. but i really THINK he said that...

what does calmag do? must be good stuff right? i assume it has calcium and magnesium.

so one for E&F and one for Aero... anyone use NFT? any other votes? its still a coin toss for me as of now... help me out people. but im slightly leaning towards aero because ViRedd said "growth is explosive", sounds pretty good to me! $) $)

thanks guys for your help. im so excited for this build, i cant wait.

edit :) :) lol

ya, when i first signed up for this site i really didnt want to say i grew pot either. i felt like i didnt want to incriminate myself and wanted to talk about tomatoes also. now i figure fock it, if i do end up going to jail for a long time then i wont have to pay bills and taxes. actually the government will be paying me to be in jail, and for what(?)- growing some pot plants so i can self medicate and have a little enjoyment in this focked up world. ya, sorry for the rant....... thanks guys for the comments, keep em coming!:peace:

LOL, I really don't grow, check the gardening section. I support the rights of others to grow but at this point in my life it really isn't possible.

sorry, im not going to check the gardening section. no offense but it dont care enough, ill take your word. well, whatever works for you my friend. i would like to have an indoor tomato/vegetable garden also, but i dont have the room :( good luck with your vegetable gardening endeavors! keep it green bro. :bigjoint:

What are you wanting to know exactly? the quickest way...easiest, or what
im not quite sure. i know the basics of each hydro system. i guess im waiting for someone to sell me on a particular system. i want high grams/watt, i want quicker harvest, i want reliability, i want fried with that too.... lol

i know that aero is the quickest, but some ppl are nay sayers because of the unreliability factor.

i would rather have a more reliable system rather than one that is all or nothing...

i think an NFT system would work great too but i havent seen enough grow journals with them. its reliable enough and i think works great, plus no disposable media(i think i would use hydroton).

it would really help if there were like all the different hydro systems side by side, with the same everything except the system. that way i could look at the yield difference and determine what i want to build.

i guess im just trying to get the pros and cons of each system and weigh them out, and then determine what would suit me best. maybe ill just look for more journals to study....

lol..you can have the fries if you get the supplies.

You could do an aero/dwc hybrid like filthy fletch's

Thats why I chose ebb and flow

There are several doing nft with fence posts and stuff

Yeah thats not gona happen...they all work great, it should be based on what you feel comfortable with. I didn't want a lot of worry about my power going out and killing plants with aero ....my lights flicker from time to time(and I didn't see filthy fletch's posts yet).

Just do more research...get a book or two. Thats what a good grower does:hump:and thats what I do:blsmoke:lol just kidding but seriously.

hey shenagen! ya, i have a book or two to say the least. i have two books from Jorge Cervantes and like 30 high times, 10 heads, and some skunk mags. ive read them all, learning something new everyday though. i really want to do aero, but i dont want to lose a crop. ahh decisions, decisions.

You're on the right track then...I was like you when I was planing my gow out. I couldn't decide on one way to grow. Yeah I learn more and more every day too, it never stops!...I've been trrying to find a copy of Garden Knowm's book, but I have to order it off the net and I never like to do that. Aero is great...just depends if you feel like you can handle it. But I will say this...if you go with ebb and flow, you'll have me for advice!

anyone know what the title of GK's book is called? ya, i read al b fuct thread on harvesting every two weeks(long ass read, but very very good), seems pretty convincing.
"But I will say this...if you go with ebb and flow, you'll have me for advice!"
aww ty. you seem nice. if i do go e&F we can be e&F buddies :)

Did you look at Filthy Fletch's post? Its a couple of threads under this on.
yes i have read his thread. i think i could pull it off but, im just trying to figure out how to attach a 1/4" drip hose/spaghetti hose(?) to the side of a 1" pvc pipe, because i want to keep my supply lines out of the root chamber. i would put the jets on top of the chamber instead of haveing the pipe inside, where roots could potentially get in the way.

Fletch has great results with the supply lines inside the res. You shouldn't need to run them on the outside and then down through the top. But if you really wanted to you still could. You need the fittings for a drip system. They are little 1/4" peg looking things. I got some at my local shop.....I had a 1/2" main line and attached the 1/4" tubing with the fittings. All I did was stab them into the tubing and they made a seal. But if you were going to use pvc for the main line you could get the same fittings and drill the holes for it in the pvc and then use some silicone to seal it up.

perfect! can you give me a link to these little peg things? also what kind of material was your 1/2" main line, maybe i could do that instead. the only thing im worried about it how much pressure they could hold. for aero you want high pressure behind the jets to give them a fine mist....... ya ty shenagen

thanks bro! i think i might order a few of them so i can do some experiments to see what is the best way to make a seal on the pvc pipe. :hump:
