Sweet heatsinks. How many watts each on those 3 COBs?
Hello RIU peoples, I hope you're doing well. Been a while since I posted...still growing, but very busy! I thought I'd show you guys my last grow before I move to a new state. Just one plant, topped several times and encouraged to spread out a bit. Using a bigger pot this time, no blumat this time. Lights are a bit close, but I'm leaving them where they are. Still a few weeks to go:View attachment 4310677

Been running a couple a51 white or white and red Cree panels 6 years and not one problem. Usually use just white and run close 120w to 130w at 12 inches. Used to augment COBs. My newest COB fixture is going on 4 years and no trouble either.

No bulbs to replace and less heat with great results at 10:15 on and 13:45 off! Good to see ya @mc130p !

I ended up smoking that plant all summer long. ^^

Hello Everyone, I hope you're all doing well. I ended up living in a place for a while where I couldn't even do my cabinet shenanigans, so I had to take a while off from growing. I really hate buying weed, but I just moved into a nice, new place. Got a new girl (hopefully) started, so I'll post a pic soon when she gets bigger. I made some changes in the cabinet too, but still have the same lights-I'll show that to you guys too. They've been working for a long time and after a year or so in a box in the closet, they still work fine. I cleaned the fans really well and ended up washing the heat sinks in the sink with hot water. They look pretty much like new, easy too! I'm glad they have such good longevity.

Later!

Hey everyone, I got some pics of the cabinet for you guys.
In addition to cleaning up a lot of wires, I added a two channel 24 hour timer, it's pretty sweet and controls the main lights and the 730nm pulse at the end of the day. I replaced my fan and my temperature controller with a new fan that has temperature and humidity control. It's very quiet and works well, highly recommend: 1603157220545.png
I also have an AC Infinity register fan on the back of the cabinet that runs all the time to maintain negative pressure when this fan is off and provides a boost for this fan to help it. It's still a rats nest in there so don't hate me. Also, you can marvel at my custom cardboard ductwork. You can't see it, but I repurposed the speed control potentiometer from the old exhaust fan to run the dimming on the two 4000K 3590s. They're at about 40% right now. The 5000K 3070 is at full power, whatever that is. A slow work in progress!

The 120mm fans on the lights are powered by a 12V power supply. This power supply also closes a relay to power the lights so they can't turn on if the fans don't have power.

Aww yeah brother MC is back at it. Good to see you around man. I picked up an AC Infinity fan a while back and have been super happy with it. Much quieter than my old s&p fan. What strain do you have in there?
thanks man! yeah, it's a great fan. seems to be a pretty reasonable price too! I went through a S&P fan, it wasn't bad, but definitely louder than this new one. I also used a 6in Hyperfan. It was nice and small, but very loud imo.

The strain is an accidental cross of Dr. Grinspoon with with Bodhi Tree of Life. I've been calling it GrinLife ;)

MC's flame defender pressure needle hasn't moved either in the last decade....I tossed mine during the move to the burbs.

That's what it looks like after "cleaning up a lot of wires"

Good luck grower
Do you think I should get a new Flame Defender? You're right, it's kind of old now but seems like it has pressure and if you shake it, the powder inside is still powder.

Yeah, there's lots of hanging wires-they mostly go to the power supplies (mounted on the inside roof above the ductwork-that fan blowing up keeps them cool) and then down to the lights. I wanted to be able to adjust the light height up and down, so there's extra wire in there. There's also a blumat water tube in the view, so that's not a wire, haha. Also, the strings for the light hangers have a lot of extra length that is kind of hanging around in there.

There's also some extra length in there because I'm not sure if this is the final spot for things. I've been thinking about putting all the drivers into a box on the outside and back of the cabinet. Eventually I think it would be nice to have all the wires enclosed in conduit mounted to the wall. I've also been thinking about mounting small 12V power supplies onto the lights, so then I just have the one set of power wires coming down.

Hi everyone, here's a quick update on the cabinet. I installed a thermal fuse in the outlet box, so if it gets really hot in there the fuse will blow and shut the shop down. It was like 2 dollars from McMaster Carr:

I also took out the false bottom and redid the intake. It's still a work in progress, but I have a 3 gallon pot instead of my usual small pots and I want a much larger plant, so I think I want all the height I can get-gained about 5 inches. The cardboard in front is also temporary. It's just a light stop, but I'm going to put in something nicer and longer lasting.

I've also been thinking about adding some strip lighting around the lower level of the cabinet. If anyone has any favorite 12 or 24 inch white strips, I'd definitely appreciate hearing your opinions.

I attached a pic of the whole cabinet, I think the angle on the previous pics I posted makes things look worse than they are. But, I am quickly coming up with a better wire management plan, because it is still a bit of a rats nest.

I topped the plant a few days back the tried and true way by pinching it off with my fingernails. I think the plant looks a tad bit yellow in the pic, but don't worry about the color, that's from the lighting as you can see on the areas around the plant too. The plan for this girl is for basically a net-free scrog through gentle stem bending. We'll see how it goes.
