I've been thinking about purchasing some leds but am not sure on what brand. This is my first grow and I am now setting up my veg room with t5s and was planing on flowering in a 4x4x6.5 grow tent. I also will being do a perpetual grow,(I know it seems like alot, but I've done my homework over the years) I was planning on hids but have been thinking of leds because of the low energy costs. Whats brands are good out there for my type of grow? Price is really not to much of an issue. I remember hearing that blackstars were very decent, but not sure. Any insights would be great,thanks-DS

Thanks, I'll most likely go with hids at first then look more into the leds. Just wanted to get an idea of price range.

I'd say the LED's with best results have been Area 51, FERO, Apache and California Lightworks.

Althought lots of successful grows have been done with lots of various brands, those are the ones I've seen the best results with. I own an Area-51 panel and it is in fact, the cats ass.

I have the magnum 357 and love it, I got it on ebay for a steal its a little expensive. Plus I have 2 sunshine 90 watt ufo which are great little additions to the magnum they were only 150 each.

Thanks beef, I saw your other post with links to led companies, found it very helpful. What are some other reputable led distributers that carry more then one brand? Apollo seems legit and I heard good things about them but they don't distribute directly from their website(just a shitload of info about there products, which was well put together) I'll look into the area 51 for future grows. What do you think about the blackstars beef? Thanks and cheers-DS

And honestly I can just see the LEDs evolving majorly each year since its somewhat of a new form indoor grow lighting. It will soon be like a smartphone, when you buy the new, coolest, cutting edge LED its only going to hold that spot for a few months then the next best thing is going to come along. Still I am very intrigued with growing with LEDs in the future. Any input on the pros and cons to HID would be greatly appreciated...

Blackstars work ok - you can get some dank from them. However, I find plants tend to grow a little funny under them. No white light is pretty unnatural.
Cidly Apollo are Chinese LED manufacturers that aren't known for using high(er) quality parts. Not saying the lights don't work, but they're not what most would consider higher end products.

There are great things that come out of China, and not so great things that come out of China.

The fellas at Area 51 hand picked the components for their lights to ensure a certain level quality and the LED's, heatsinks, drivers, and fans they use are of superior quality compared to other "Made in China" LED products for that reason. It's an American company, with the best warranty that I've seen anywhere.

They made their lights with the specific purpose of being a higher quality product while still being as cost effective as possible.

I run Spectra and Pro Grow, nothin special and part of "the early LED era" but are noteworthy for having their own footnotes in the LED market, My next invesetment (light wise) are two A51-135's. (Area 51)

Biscuit and Dawg have slightly convinced me of their pull in today's LED market. ;-)

I would strongly suggest at least giving their site a look; very clean, neat set up.

Apollo looks pretty sweet too- especially being able to take the light apart at the drop of a dime- not that you couldn't any other, but they have "slotted" the external frame for each "board" of wires, diodes, drivers, etc.

Again, very neat and tidy.

Good luck!

Those parts come from where..... Ahhhhh cidly, so do blackstar chrome, fero, agroled a few others. Then mag comes from bysen. Clw is american. But its crap. Dual chip diodes don't last. That company is major financial trouble. Green coast hydro is possibly acquiring them.

Cidly will do custom lights on request. It costs more. Still less than others. They use epistar led as a standard, you can get with epiled, osram, or phillips too. They use 120mm fans at 2200 rpms, same as bysen. With the rectangle shape they are able to cool it down more so.by that diodes are driven to 2.4 w. Where the square shape are driven to.1.9 watts.

Granted the rectangle shape is kind of a pain for coverage on larger lights. My 10 covers 2 1/2 by 5 ft. Where the square one would cover 3x3 to 4x4. But one less module and 60 or so less watts.

My 10 is 360 w. 150 x 3. I do use it with my 1000 w. . 3rd week of jan im getting another one most likely ( if not ig). Then selling the 1000 again. Hopefully it will sell this time.

Im not knocking area 51. They are definitely great lights. Its a buyers market.

The only reason I see to drop major cash on those lights is for the U.S. based warranty. Honsestly 3 years down the line. The tech will be so much more advanced the lights wont be worth half of what they cost. Even endo is selling one of his feros for 650 less than what he paid. Its 2 months old.

They get some parts from them not all. Like indagro their parts come from all over the world. I said they get their parts not build them.

Area 51 is in no way whatsoever associated with Cidly, nor are any parts from there. How hard is that to understand?

If you'd like, send an email to the site, and I'd be glad to share my parts list with anyone and also addresses where they are assembled.

Well.i.was told by one of the reps at cidly. I asked what light companies they deal with in th u.s. they didn't do pay pal yet. I was unsure of ordering from china. The new ones might not be. but at one time they were. Every few month they change their spectrum on those lights.

Cidly is full of shit. I bet if you ask 5 different companies, they will all tell you they build the same companies' lights.

I never once bought a light or a part from Cidly that was for retail purposes.

Believe what you want, I don't give a fuck.
