I currently have a 600w hps running in my closet but only running at 200w and heat is still an issue , I have about all the ventilation /airflow that I can rn , so am thinking to Change to LED but don’t rly wanna sacrifice yeild / quality if possible , I also don’t rly wanna bankrupt myself On a new light that won’t make a difference so my question is anyone know of a reasoably priced led I could use , I have been looking at the mars hydro 2000tsw or 3000tsw but am open to suggestions as I don’t know much about LEDs

also for reference my closets about 4ft wide, 3ft deep and 7ft tall

There are way better leds than mars, the led guys will chime in soon. Led's put off a lot of heat too.

watt for watt, all lights put off the same amount of heat-just keep that in mind when people recommend things.

This is Also what I have read about LEDs in terms of heat , but if an equivalent for. 600whps was less actual power draw would that be less heat generated ?

May I offer a suggestion? Keep using your 600w HPS for flower. LED is not going to produce a superior result, and you'll spend a fairly large chunk of money on a quality board capable of flowering in a manner equivalent to the performance of a 600w hps. There is nothing wrong with your 600w hps for flower and there's no need to replace great equipment. What you could do is get a couple of 110w boards for under $200 delivered that will nicely illuminate a 5'×5' without issue for an 18/6 light cycle. Doing this you'd save a considerable amount of energy over vegging for 18 hours per day with a 600w MH lamp. Then flower for 12/12 with your 600w hps. Here is a picture of the exact setup I have suggested:

There is no reason to stop using your 600w hps for flower. When the ballast fails in a few years then I would upgrade to a $400 LED light capable of replacing a 600w HPS, but there's no reason to get rid of good equipment that hasn't failed and works great. As a matter of fact here is a photo of my flower room. I've added 2 quantum boards but I still use 2 1000w hps lamps and 2 600w hps lamps. Why? Because they produce stellar results, I already paid for them, and they haven't failed. There's no reason to ever replace good equipment just to keep up with the latest technology.

The 450w unit would be a direct replacement for a 600w HPS. However, you get considerably more value for your money ordering the 660w model from alibaba avoiding the inflated price and middle man sales tactics employed on Amazon.

Respect for the detailed response man , I’ve been told a few time’s now that I simply won’t be able to get the same quality and yeild overall if I stop using hps , the issue with my current setup is due to adequate cooling can’t have it set to 600w (Or 650 on boost mode I think )so I think I’ll take ur word for it and stil with my light will just invest a little extra for a cool tube instead of a whole new light,
I’m just worried about setting it up and preventing smell leaks as my carbon filter is on the imside of the closet and I assumed having a cool tube exhaust may start to cause a bit of stank

but again thanks man:bigjoint:

Easy fix dude. Avoid cool tubes if your budget allows. Air cooled glass sealed and gasket equipped hoods provide better reflectivity to the canopy below while keeping your clean carbon scrubbed air separated from the stinky air inside the tent as it exits your ventilation track from the output side of your new air cooled hood.

Yield Master 6" for $103 and change:
https://www.amazon.com/Sun-System-Grow-Lights-Air-Cooled/dp/B001O1V634/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=yield+master+6&s=lawn-garden&sr=1-3

Setup like this:
Inline fan pulling through the carbon filter hung up and secured in the tent from the suspension poles or on the floor. Whichever you have more space for. After the inline fan pulls through the filter to clean the air it will then pass through your hood with clean non-stinky air as your 6" ducting pipes the hot carbon scrubbed air out and away from your tent. That solves your heat problem and your stink problem. Relatively inexpensively too. I can't find a better quality hood for the money than the yield master 6". Solidly built and modestly priced. If you are tight on space inside the tent you can also mount the carbon scrubber outside the tent and have your inline fan push through the filter. This is less efficient and should be a last resort type of situation, because it's less efficient. I've had to do it though, and it is effective. If you do this type of setup I would suggest you place your carbon filter on the floor outside of the tent. Stack your inline fan on top of it pushing directly into the filter. Attach your ducting from the air cooled hood to the inline fan. This will pull air through your hoods cooling the tent and then smash the air through the carbon scrubber. It is very effective, but not as efficient as pulling through your carbon filter.

So I Didn’t realise I could get sealed Hps lights that seems like my best bet thanks so
Much I’m gonna order that what u linked(or something similar) , do I just plug my current ballast into this or does it come with its own ballast?

You are correct. You will plug the cord set from the new hood into your existing ballast to supply power to the mogul socket and lamp. Basically this is what will be inside of the hood with a standard sun systems style ballast connector.

If you have a hydro farm style ballast then you can use a handy sun systems to hydro farm connector:

Also keep in mind led's have large heat syncs to distribute and dissipate heat, MH/HPS lights do not.
Excellent point. I began buying quantum boards because I wanted to add more lighting to expand my flower room, but I didn't want to have to invest in more expensive inline fans and air cooled hoods to carry the heat away. My LED boards generate some heat, but nothing near what my HID's generate.

It is a nice luxury to just hang a quantum board and point a fan at it versus all the components needed to install a new HID with an inline fan and air cooled hood. Costs add up quickly.

Thanks for all the input , im gonna go the sun systems route and see how it goes hopefully my ladies will do well
I’m super exited for this as it’s my first grow so I’m Gonan be doing some sort of diary for my own reference next time round but I’ll post it on Here and Maybe some other newb like myself will find it useful haha
And hopefully in a few months I’ll be thanking u again :D

For a small area with only a single 600w you can use one 6” or 8” in-line fan for exhaust and air cooling the reflector.

What do you currently have for ventilation? I don’t see any mention of that and ultimately that is what is going to determine your temps not a different kind of light.

For intake I am using only passive intake caused by the negative pressure in my closet

And for outtake I don’t know the brand of The
Fan but it’s 6 inch 130 cfm I belive On a carbon filter that I bought from the grow store Again unaware of the brand

, but I do plan on replacing both as I’m pretty sure neither will be good enough when I turn up to 650 w

Oh boy. Yes, you will need a better fan. Lots available on Amazon. If you've got a few extra dollars I'd recommend the 6" Vortex power fan. 497CFM for $158 @ home depot. I've used one for a few years and it's a beast of a fan.

I’m interested to know what fan you have. A 6” in-line centrifugal fan typically has over 400 CFM and 6” carbon filters are typically rated at 400-500 CFM.

130 CFM is definitely not enough and most of your airflow is probably being killed by your carbon filter.

I’ve used Can-Fans, Hydrofarm, Vortex and Hurricane and for the price/quality Tjernlund is hard to beat. That’s what I’ll be using from here on out. The company specializes in ventilation and are made in the US. Their 6” cost half of that Vortex.
