LED and Plasma height from seedlings?

Hello to all. Some really great information on this site, and my thanks go out to those of you who contributed your experience to benefit growers everywhere.
I'm almost certainly asking something that has already been answered, but if people didn't do this then the site would only have a 1/4 the post....

I've been growing for a while now, inside and out, but this is my first LED grow. How high should the lights be from my seedlings? I have a progrow 260 and a 50w plasma. The girls are just popping up, up to about 3 days old.

Thanks

The Pro Grow can be as close as you want; though id suggest 12-18" so you dont have so many individual wavelengths on the canopy and get a nice spread across the plain. Flower....6-8".

The switchable spectrum on the PG is nice for those lil seedlings. I want to build an LED with a dimmible knob and switchable drivers.. too sweet.

Good luck man, sounds like youve got quite the setup- post a journal!

That seems like an awfully meager amount of lights to me Bumping. The 50w at 2' already would have a 3/5 reduction of light intensity just from distance. At a draw of 46w that would be like growing seedlings under shade cloth. Sorry to be a dick, but I'm a dick.

Thanks Scotch for an actual answer. Are you an LED person yourself? Yeah the spectrum switch is great, giving the babies 8 hours blue and another 12 hours with both allows for good density and stretch, IMO. (left out the H just I ain't really that humble...might as well be honest here.)
Dimable ability would be damned nice. You build?

I'm thinking I will do a journal, I learned a lot from here, (massive amounts of info here, and a lot of dedicated, serious growers) and maybe I know something someone wants to know. (Only started using a computer in the last year, so I didn't know about sites like this.) It still seem kinda odd that people post journals of their grows, but that is the age of technology I guess.

If you can't veg with 50w of plasma, you must be vegging for a 1.5k+ watt grow.

I wouldn't recommend 2', but I know nothing of your light or its optics.

As an example of what power you need for seedlings:

7 day old seedlings 7.5.12.jpg

Here is a 2 x 7w and 2 x 4w = 22 watts.

Seedlings are 7 days.

50 watts is plenty, depending how close they are.

Thanks everyone. Plasma is now just 6 hours as midday sun at about 2ft. Led is 16in and 14hr full spectrum and 10hr blue. Seedlings seem to be thriving. Just finished their first dehydration and are about to explode in growth. (except maybe smurfberry, she's terribly dried, but looks like she might be trying to come back)

Yes Hilo, setting up for a respectably decent sized grow.
You have 7w cfl's? Cronikool? Why go so small? Just wondering.

Hehehe...nah im LED's all the way...! This amount of LED's were for seedlings...then i bumped them up progressively through out the grow. (Total 107w on 2 plants) I figured there was no point wasting power on seedlings.

Im sans grow panels. :)
