Leaves turning upward (simple clarification)

Hey everyone.

I'm into day 5 and some of the plants, particularly one has turned its leaves upward, as if it were just coming out of the seed. I'd say its either due to the light or due to the heat. Today was a very hot day.

I've moved 2 of the plants indoors and placed a cfl over them and a fan so hopefully this will remedy the problem. Problem is definitely not water related

Any clarification is much appreciated. Thanks (will post pics as required)

just sounds like the leaves are pointing to the light, they do that when they start to flower.
what light?.

thats right, if u grow outside its just the leaves stretching to reach that good sun light dont worry they can take it

It was sunlight up until a few hours ago. Now its a dual 18watt cfl. Yeah, its not powerful but I figure they're not big yet. If they grow larger I'll go buy a decent rig. Will take photos and post in a few minutes

ya its the leaves channeling the light to the node. healthy plants do this keep up the good work. Peace

did you get self-nutrient releasing soil? you have similar soil to what i have. i used that for my seedling, and it worked great for a while, then all of a sudden, the leaves turned yellow and it stunted its growth. i don't know for sure what went wrong but i assume it was the soil combined w/ overwatering. i'd be careful of that type of soil, just watch out on the watering and it 'should' be okay.

i'm 2-3 days behind yours, mine just started to show its leaves. it's bagseed and it seems to be taking longer than my first grow (NL x Skunk). too bad that was a failure.

Yeah its the self release stuff. I really just grabbed the first bag in sight, which I had previously used for the tomatoes. Co-incidentally, the plant I've hidden in the tomatoes has gone nuts and shot right up. Before planting it, I'd been watering the tom's with fish extract; not sure if its the reason but its looking very healthy.

The one thats curling its leaves is still curling, but its looking healthy. To be honest, it was stressed the day it was planted. I don't expect too much out of it. But thanks for the advice on the soil. If this crop fails I'll have to use different soils.

Honestly the same thing happened to me.. I transplanted into a new container with 2 parts soil to one part perlite and it made a complete 180. When you water does the water just sit on the top of the soil for a while? what are the temps & humidity at?

Haven't got the stats on the temp and humidity at the moment (not monitoring) but a grow cabinet is in the process with data logging, so I can see what its been like over a 24 hour period. Water sits on the top for a few moments and then sinks in. Is day 6 too early to transplant? I would think the plant wouldn't like it too much.

You'll definately want those plants out of that self-release nutrient soil unless it specifically says nutrients aren't released until after the first month, IMO. Just get some perlite, vermiculite, peat moss & top soil and mix it all together. A bag of each costs less than 5 bucks total.

I bought self-fert soil and didn't mix with perlite or sand. There is not very good drainage (obviously) so I want to transplant. The roots go all the way to the bottom, they are on their 4th set of leaves...is it too late to transplant? Will they die?

Nah they won't die as long as you are careful while transplanting.

It's probably better to trasnplant no matter how old if you know that the soil they are in will do more harm than good.

Thanks for the info mal_crane What I think I'll do is replant 4, wait a day or two to see if they live (to make sure I'm transplanting correctly) and then replant the others. That way, if I screw it up at least I'll still have a few plants.

Replanted 2 plants... and a tomato plant It needed some lourvin. Will wait and see!
