how old, what fert, how large container, what's your soil mix, what light, how close do you keep the light, ph of the water?

a month and a half about 10" pots with miracle grow and im growin outdoors its 2' tall it gets about 6-7 hours of direct light

put the plant in the ground or in a pot at least 5 gallons.

Unless it's genetic, which is unlikely in this case, there should be other growth happening, regardless of routine. I can't say what's out-of-whack, but can tell you that I'd top it pretty quick, especially if you're in town. Topping it will/should force that side growth.
I have no clue why a bigger planter would make any difference when side growth usually appears on plants in 2" pots.
