Leaves curling 1.5 weeks into flower.

Hello, this will be my first post here as well as my first grow so here's a little background.

:indoor grow with 4 gallons of soil for each plant.
:1.5 weeks into flower
:600w HPS light
:watering every 3 days
:nutrients used (fox farm big bloom) 1x per week
:no nutrients were used during veg. (Water only)

So onto the problem I am having, it seems that the past couple of days my fan leaves have begun to curl downwards. My crop is also roughly 12 inches from the light. I had zero issues with the plant during veg.

Back the light off, about 6-8" if sealed in a hood, 8-12" if bare bulb. The beginning of flower will stretch some, so be sure to pay attention for the first 3-4 weeks.

The upper foliage is possibly too hot/dry and is causing an excessive uptake of water, which will also pull nutes from the soil.

That bit of tip curl and the very dark green leaves indicates to me that the nutes are a little too high.

Excess heat from the lights will cause the edges of the leaves to turn up and lead to the 'Taco' or 'Canoe' look. I got me some of that now.

Do you know what your humidity is? Low RH will cause the plants to pull up extra nutes along with the extra water they will use and can easily lead to toxic salts buildup. That will first show in older fan leaves with them going all dry and crispy as they go yellow and brown. It doesn't look like normal nute burn but that's what it is but shows as yellow/brown spots on the surface of fan leaves rather than tip and edge burning. Most folks think it's some deficiency or pH problem and throw more stuff in only making it worse.

Skip the feed for at least a couple of waterings and use RO or distilled water if you can. The minerals in tap water only add to the salts load.

A light flush if it seems to be getting worse wouldn't hurt either.

Hey OMU, how about some yucca in the watering to help with flush?
I say yuck to yucca! :) I really have no idea tho. Maybe with organically grown pot but I don't know.

I mainly use soilless media and hydro nutes for plants in pots. Then I know exactly what my plants are eating and how much.

The fresh soil the OP used would likely have been enough for a while and the added nutes are pushing it a bit. Not sure what all is in those nutes he used but it looks like too much N from somewhere.

I had this issue when i first started growing. didnt realize how hot my soil was so when i even added a little N i would burn the plants/.

I guess yucca can be used in hydro to help keep lines clear.
I've only ever done single tub DWC hydro grows. About 50 so far. A little peroxide twice a week kept things clean until I made a DIY chiller out of a water cooler and kept the nute temps at 65F then didn't need the peroxide.

Simplicity is the goal I strive for.

Also, unless you have a hungry plant, try to wait a week or two minimum before flowering in a pot of fresh ocean forrest.

Big bloom isn't really adding any N,but also isn't helping at this point.

The only way to slow it down at this point would be raising the light, dropping temps and/or raising RH just like oldmeduser pointed out.

So I've come to the conclusion that the light is just to hot, I've got 2 fans running inside my tent and also have AC vented in. Would switching to a 400w bulb make any difference at this point?

I would want the 600 going myself. If the edges of the leaves aren't curling up badly then heat isn't an issue. High nutes can cause some of that too but then the tips along the edges will show signs of nute burn.

Unless you're seeing real damage I'd stick with the 600 for now. At least until they are done stretching which should be pretty soon as you're almost 3 weeks in.
