Lawn Mower Pruning Method?????

Good morning all,

Had the luxury of an Hawaiian Island vacation years ago, and
smoked some very smooth and delicious. Even got a little to take home!

As a 17 year old New Yorker who thought he knew it all, I asked why the plant that I encountered (and lit up!) had been so short and bushy. After all...wasn't this the land of the 16 foot Sativa? The caretaker told me that they can't have trees growing all over the place ( too much attention), so to keep the height down outdoors, they mow the lawn and the plant with it! They do it a few times, and it get strongly rooted and squat and stubby et al...

SO: What if you chop (top) the plant in the 24 hour light stage when it is 3-5 inches tall or so? What if you do this every week for the first three weeks or so? Will the plants return each time? The strains I will be experimenting on:

1)Super Crystal and 2)Chocolope.

Could use the help...have a pair of 600 hps ready to go after cfl birthing :).

Best,

to my knowledge .. if your roots are strong, the plant will regrow.
so in theory you should be able to do that.
BUT. hehe
... YOU can control the light cycle indoors.. so YOU can keep them short by not vegging them for months.. only veg for 2 weeks or so.. then flower them, they will be short just like that..

so it will regrow even if there are no leaves on the plant?....as long as there is a good root system

It sounds 50/50 to me.. BUt you indoors, why dont you try another growing technique to keep them small. I use a lil aerogarden and im gettin great results with small plants.

because technically the stronger the root system, the stronger the plant. So, if you focus on building a strong root ball for a month then go to vegg for awhile, then flower, then chop off and start over, you will eventually end up with a strong healthy mother plant that is powerful!:fire:

Yeah, you can do that in the veg stages but, you realize you will have a ton of popcorn size buds and not big juicy colas! Each time you top a branch, two will form.

basically i top twice, turning 1 stem into 2 into 4 stems
makes the plant bushy not tall and thin. i grow sativa indoors so this is the only way to keep things under the light.

it really does sound like a waste of time, you could just grow a clone for two weeks and then flower........oh wait......that's what we do already......sorry!!!!LOL!!!

LOL .. yea skip the lawn mower 'stage' .. haha
as far as topping and pruning goes .. I top the plants only once in their lifetime, 1 week into the flowering stage so that two decent size buds emerge at the tops.. I prune only as needed during veg (getting rid of leaves that have gone bad and/or not getting any light at the bottom) and then cut off entire lower branches at the beginning of the flowering stage so the plant can use most of its sugars to give the begininning of bud production a boost.

NEVER!!!!!! If you cut down the plant to the ground it is DEAD!!! Pinch the top early at the 4th stage of leaves above the primary round ones and you will get 8 branches , then pinch again 4 stages up on new branches to get a million branches. If you want it to stay low tie the new braches down parallel to the ground and your side branches will grow up toward the sun, making hundreds of colas on one plant. Marijuana cannot grow from a stub like a celery plant does or a forsythia yard plant does, EVER!!!! It must have some kind of green growth. NEVER PICH DURING BUDDING OR FOR THE 6 WEEKS BEFORE BUDDING. This removes the buildup of hormones that make buds and you only delay the buds from growing properly

if your growing outdoors or in soil I can understand the strong root system.. But indoors with ideal conditions my plants and roots flourished. Guess hydro is the way to go..Could it also take alot of stress off the roots not having to hold the plant up or attatch to anything?
