Last grow was back in 2011, have some questions

Last grow I did was 2011. I had a pretty active account on here and was knowledgeable, but sort of fell out of it and forgot my password. I was a dirt bagger using Sub Cool Super Soil (changed a little by myself) indoors with HPS lighting. Due to this, that, changes to the medical program and life I have been out of it since.

New laws and regulations the past few years have peaked my interest in a small (legal) operation. Nothing more than 4 plants or so. I keep seeing LED panels are the rage.

As far as soil mixes, is the old Sub SuperSoil recipe still the best? I know things change so what have all the organic indoor growers been using lately?
Also would need to cover the smell now, something I didn’t use to have to worry about, so is charcoal can filters still the way to go?

thanks

Not a whole lot has changed with organics since then, just research the LEDs a lot before buying one and check here if you aren't sure about it. Yep, ppl still using the can filters!

Well that’s good to know.

has there been any new “big” things in the last 10 years that I should research on? Or is it pretty much going to be the same. Mix soil, let it cook, plant and keep the soil alive.

Still making teas in buckets with aerators and everything?

Welcome back..Pretty much the same except the lighting..I used hps in the past ( since 2010 ) off and on.. trying led for the last few months..I'm waiting for my hps ballast .. supposed to be delivered tomorrow..I'm a soil grower and I'm going back to the lights I know how to use

This..I picked up a 1000w lumatek dimmable ballast , a cheaper bulb and an air cooled hood for $110 :hump: ..€bay
Yep. Best to look for a used sunsystem Magnum XXXL hood and a used ballast. Buy a new bulb though.

Or if you have the height, maybe look into a double ended hps light.

Ya I went with the s.e ..I'm buying a better bulb in a couple of weeks..none the less im happy to be going with old school lighting

LED isn’t cutting it for you? Was hoping that technology was up to speed because of the heat from HPS
If heat is a major issue for you then it might be worth looking into LED. The crazy thing is, plants under HPS like it 70-75 while plants under LED like it 80-85. Personally i just grow in the winter and the HPS helps heat the house and keeps the grow room the perfect temp. Sounds like in the past you ran several lights.... Would just one HPS still cause you heat issues?

One may not cause issues like I used to have. I used to have a pretty big set up, now looking for something small and personal.

Yeah my point exactly. One light should be pretty manageable. Might even be better off with two 4x4 tents with 600w in each of them so that while one is off the other one is on. That way you always have a pretty constant amount of heat coming from them.
