How do I manipulate the photoperiod for larger yields

[DISCLAIMER]: This information is provided as experimental data and not fact.

The only photoperiod manipulation from years of experiments that offered discernible improvements was this adjustment made for 1 or 2 calendar weeks at the point of maximum flowering rate: Daylength of 21 hours, 36 minutes with a dark period of 12 hours. To accomplish this, you need a 7 day, 24 hour digital timer. During a 7 day calendar week on Earth, the "sun" only cycles 5 times. This permits easily switching back to the regular 12/12 at your discretion. You may want to only alter during peak flower production to stimulate the plant's metabolism. Using this photoperiod throughout the flowering cycle will cause this:

A variety that takes 49 days of 12/12 to mature, won't see 49 - 12 hour dark periods under 21:36/12 until almost 10 calendar weeks have passed.

The total increase in light energy is almost 80%, which will produce larger yields, if all of your other enviromental conditions are kept optimal.

The total increase in flowering period is only 40%, half the potential room for improvement. This means you don't have to be perfect to win out.

Selective application of the 21:36/12 photperiod for only 1 or 2 weeks extends the wait only 2 to 4 Earth days, which makes up the missing 2 complete day and night cycles each week on Planet Ito. This permits the additional light energy to be provided without purchasing additional equipment or overloading existing circuits, which maximizes the existing system's capabilities. The main advantage is that matched with co2 and optimal nutrition, the plants metabolism will increase dramatically. I have only successfully tested this photoperiod for two weeks. The potential for a net increase of 40% over the entire cycle (80% increase in light energy vs. 40% longer wait) is worthwhile. Don't be afraid!

Day 1 - Sunday, 6:00am til Monday, 3:36am
Day 2 - Monday, 3:36pm til Tuesday, 1:12pm
Day 3 - Wednesday, 1:12am til Wednesday, 10:48pm
Day 4 - Thursday, 10:48am til Friday 8:24am
Day 5 - Friday, 8:24pm til Saturday 6:00pm

Is this a viable way to increase yields?

All i want to know is has anyone done this...it would be a real shame to send my flowers back into a veg state because i jacked up the photoperiod reading something that doesnt work.

You think too much. Plants grown properly from the start (and I'm not going to include all the factors related to that - everyone knows what they are) by experienced growers produce excellent/high yields come harvest time. There's nothing wrong with experimenting to try and get more, but if the experiment is a highly involved process that takes up a lot of my time, well ... I just won't be into it. On top of that, I think you risk 'confusing' the plant and it may actually slow bud production thinking it's heading into another veg cycle. I don't know ... I think I'll just stick to my tried and true methods, but more power to you.

Well it was posted on this sites main pages and if its bad info it shouldnt be up there, i think people believe everything they read so a slow guy like me may make the mistake of doing it.

At this site they do. LOL No offense to RIU 'cause it's got nothing to do with them; I just think it's unfortunate that many beginners are believing bad info simply because they don't know any better. (Something I see quite often.) I mean, when you don't know something, you don't know it, so it's only natural to believe someone when you think they know what they're talking about. I suppose it's not anyone's fault really, because the people giving the bad info don't even know it's bad info, they just think they're helping others. It's an endless circle ... luckily there are a lot of people here who DO know what they are doing, so hopefully it will all even out in the end. And no, I make no claims of being an expert grower, very experienced, yes, but expert? Nah, there's only a couple of them in the world and I ain't one of 'em.

I thought your post was interesting - just way too much for me to bother with. It never hurts to throw it out there and see if you can find a like-minded cohort. A slow person like you? Yeah right. People who really are slow don't like to say it. LOL

that shit confused me too. i was wondering if the 36 hour initial dark period was bullshit too. anyone have a clue?
