keepin' it simple

here's how i do it. no split straws. no fan stimulation. no staking. works for me every time. nice fat stalks. no troubles. no worries.

needed:

1 - germed seed
1 - 6" pot
1 - handful of large gravel ( i use 3/4" driveway rock )
1 - bag of soil of choice

this applies to soil but could be tweaked to other uses.

fill pot with 1 layer of gravel. add 1" of soil. add germed seed to surface. cover with 1/2" of soil. place under light. seed will sprout in a couple of days. i keep my light high enough to get under it and water (6"?). as seedling stretches back fill with new soil. i allow seedling to stretch an inch or so before filling. continue this until pot is full. sometimes the first several sets of leaves must be trimmed. don't worry they will come back on top! by the time the pot is full the stalk will be pencil thick! IMG_1036.JPG

i get really fat stalks by doing this one simple procedure, maybe once every week.. probably no more than 3-4 times ever.

i rub the stalk between my finger an thumb between each node. kinda crushing the stem. no so much that the plant falls over.. just bursting the vessels inside. after i do this a few more times to my lil girl here ill post a pic and show u how big they get. as they heal they thickin and get meaty. strong stalks that remain hollow inside. plus my fingers smell real good for a couple hours.

this is a trick ive always done, and i recommend it

note: the effect happens quick, like within a day or two. u can rush it, just dont mash the stem again until it heals from the first time. u can prolly do it 3 times a week and never do it again, but i like to do it evertime i get a new node.

only problem i see with doing that is, the plant will be putting all its energy into repairing the stalk instead of growing new nodes leaves etc ,but i suppose if your only doing it at the beginning it doset really matter ?personaly ive never had a problem with weak stems ,by the time they get to budding there strong enough ( i just have a small fan blowing against them )
