I have been building a 4x4x7 growbox out of wood for around a week now, and im almost done . I have grown outdoor with success and now im going to try inside for first time . Today a good friend came over with a surprise . He was given a couple grow lites for my cause and handed them over to me . It is amazing how nice these lights really are and how well built they are . It has a sun systems reflecter and a m59 ballast by sun systems. all to power a eye hortilux blue 400w hor/htl blu . From what I have googled today it looks lioke this lamp might work for me . What i am wondering is if it is enough for my size growbox and if I should use it for all the growth stages . Anyone with experience using these lights who can give me a couple tips would be much appreciated

Horty blues are great bulbs and very expensive for a bulb. Is it the Hortilux Blue or just the MH? If it is the blue, I suppose you could flower with it but have no experience to back it up.

With a 400w HID, you have around a 3x3' realistic coverage area. I can tell you that HPS will output more lumens and light leaning toward the red end of the spectrum. Chloroplasts tend to convert more "red-end" light energy into usable forms at higher rates than light at the other end of the spectrum. This is why HPS will give more yield and larger flowers than a MH light.

For best results, it is best to use MH for veg and HPS for flower. A 600W light would be better suited to that space and will penetrate down through the canopy more but a 400W will work inside 3x3' of it pretty well.

It is a 400w blue .I just turned it on out in my garage not in the box and it seems to put out heat but not as bad as others I have seen . I plan on installing a fan on the reflector and a fan on the outside of box too keep it cool . Not until I try the fans will I see how my temps will end up . Im hoping it will not be too hot so I can run a hps at the same time .
