so i just purchased a 1000w hps light set up and am wonderin if i can do my veg and clone with the 4" tube flo and then when would i put the 1000w on and for how long?
just bought hps light...

sure,thats what most folks do, veg with cfls or floro tubes, then when ready, slap up your hps and change your light schedule to 12/12....you can change to flower cycle anytime you want..There is no set time. I usually put mine into flower after about 4 weekls of vegging or when they reach about 20 in. tall....good luck.

Oh you mean how long do you flower? Usually 8 weeks for indica strains and 13 weeks or more for sativas. It all depends, These are minimum times i specified...youll know when their done...the white hairs will turn mostly brown or a red color, all your leaves will mostly yellow...ect... Id suggest doing a little research on here. there are some great threads on here that will give you all the answers your looking for....

i just bought a 1000w hps today..... im in week 2 of veg and i have a sour d clone that is also about 2 1/2 wk old anyone have any suggestions as i dont know what the next steps are......

I'm using northern lights #5. My room is 6.5x6.5x6.5 but I'm only using probably 4x4 right now

I use my 1000w from seedling to harvest... I just keep it 5ft above when they're young. 4 weeks in and I have it at 16-20in above depending on the day
Ive heard of people doing this, but dont they stretch?? I use 4' floro tubes and t5,s, I put them about an inch from the tops...the results= nice short, tight noded, bushy ladies....IMO, Im getting great results during veg and not using even half the power consumption....

It's not very efficient to use a 1000w by any means... But if you're air cooled and have good ambient temps (I use an A/C) you can keep the light close and there's no stretch...
I'm going to be running a SOG perpetual of some sort. So I have another tent for mothers and I'm getting a 4ft T5 fixture to root/veg clones under...then they go in to the big flower room... I just havent bought my T5s yet so I'm using the HPS for veg. Hurts the power bill though. $60 a month to run it at 20/4

60$ a month extra really isnt that much but its an extra 60 bucks..... did you buy ur tent or make it?

by using a hps and a 1000w at that does that speed up the process vs using flo and t5 setup

These pics ere from 2 weeks ago. They're much bigger now with side branches. No stretching.
I believe the 1000w HPS outperforms T5s any day but you produce a lot more heat and use a lot more energy (ie waste).. Idealy I'd hve a 1000w MH but since this is the only time i will be using this ballast for vegging I didnt splurge on the bulb.. I WILL be splurging on a Hortilux bulb soon though

1000watt hps does the veggi job for me.Im using for my current topped grow. to avoid strech brring the lights close enough to light up the shades underneath the plants fanleafs which is pretty simple with a 1000watter.when you get to flowering just put two small cfls underneath the plant
