those are just rings to contain my water. they only go an inch deep.

i am topping and trimming as needed to keep them at a manageable size. they are all about the same size. they were all started at the same time.

i went to the hydro store and they were almost bare of veg nutes. took a minute to sink in as to why. i asked dude at the counter what was up and he did me a deal on a 6 gallon jug.

looks like your about a gallon deep already. when did you start this year? been a funky year for weather.

How do you get the tomato cages off once they outgrow them? Or do they stay?

Looks good, as I expected. With this weather they should be massive in no time.

i didn't start them until april they have only been outside since the beginning of this month. they are catching up fast.

i leave the tomato cages on. helps support the side branches.

i just tilled it this year. composted in last years stalks and fan leaves, but that wasn't really much at all.

i am doing my best to top them and keep them low this year. i have new neighbors on both sides.
