Just A Few ?'s

Hello all, as you can see I'm a newbie on this forum, but I've been reading for a few months now. I just have question about lighting and the current setup I have. I have a 4 ft chest/lockbox (wooden) turned up on it's side so the front still opens, closes, and locks when needed. I lined the inside with aluminum foil. I have two exhaust fans(top left and bottom right), one bringing fresh air in and one taking air out. I have one 100 watt flourecent light suspended inside the box just over my baby. Is the 100 watts bulb enough for this one plant. I read somewhere that I should have at least 400 watts going. Can someone please guide me in the right direction?

Well.. If you still have the packaging i really suggest returning it and getting a bunch of 26w and 42w, much less expensive(usually, i dont know what you bought it for)
If you cant return it then i still suggest getting some cfls for veg and flowering.
hope this helps.

dont use foil. since you already have the plant in there, painting is not an option, however go to a store and get cheap matt finish poster board and line the inside. does a much better job of reflection. the fluorescent light may work if its designed for plants/aquariums type of bulb. HPS is always the best choice but in such a small grow space for one plant, it may not be worth it.. It is possible to run an entire grow using just CFL's (compact fluorescent lights) but the yield is not that much, especially compared to a plant grown using either metal halide or high pressure sodium lamps.

welcome and read as much as you can! the growFAQ's really really help.

if you need something reflective foil is not smart...unless you want to burn holes in your plants... i suggest going to a store... buy some mylar wrapping paper... look for the stuff with shinny mirror like coating on the inside... line your box with that.... 100 watt floro should be fine... if its make for growing.... look for a lumen rating.... you want atleast a few thousand lumens for each plant you grow... between 3-10,000 lumens... and if your just growing one plant... please dont get a 400 watt hps... thats mad overkill unless the plant/tree is 6 ft tall

1st, you should probably switch that al foil to something like White paint, or panda paper.

2nd for the lights you need to look at the Kelvins, should be 6500k or 5500k for vegging. Watts not neccicarily what you need to look at 60 wats do fine but 100 should be good enough till it starts to get some height, then you should add more cfls up and down the plant. Just my input considering today i went to home depot to buy my own cfls and set up something similiar.

you need more lights, i got 6 100 watt eqv inside of my rubbmaid container and it seems to be ok

just dont go crazy when i put my 6 lights for the 3 plants everyone started freaking out how i didn't have enough light, lol theres never enough light for most people

one guy told me that i needed 12 bulbs for this little box which would have been crazy. you do need more light but go to the grow journals and see what stealth growers are doing with small watts you can get some amazing results

Thanks for all the help guys. My plant is about two days old now , but i think it may be dying. I'll post some pics later so yo guys can tell me what you think. Once again, thanks for all your help.
