It's the soil

Hi guys ... you remember my post a couple of weeks ago about saving my EB ... well I put them in different potting soil and a few are recovering ... I'm getting new growth ... the question is what happened to the soil I had. I got the mix from Lowes ... the first couple of bags produce excellent results ... then I started having problem with the same brand ... Did it break down ... what? ... Has anyone else had this problem with bad potting soil?

... Is there anything I can do to get the soil where it will grow nice plants again. What can I do. Or should I just use it outside ...

What do you think?

dude, subcool's organic section has a great soil recipe. i've read several books from top gardeners who each mention that building your own soil from great raw materials is the next step in growth for organic growers.

those potting soils at the store are not entirely trustworthy. you can get pests and disease. i have. i'll model the soil of my next grow after sub-cool's.

Howdy CC ... you know is gal and not dude ... at least you should by now ...

... do you think I can use the soil I have or do you think I should start fresh?

Thanks for the post by the way ...

GR, I did not know you were a gal. Cool! I love the green thumb ladies! My bad.

And yes, I think you can start with your soil and add to it. Everything which sub-cool suggests as add-ins are organic so you cannot overfertilize. Just enriche your soil like it was growing in a really fertile spot of land. I also add a micorrhizal fungi to aid the process of a living soil 'bringing' the nutrients to the plant instead of the roots seeking them out.

good luck!

Ya didn't know ... hummm ... you must not read many my post in the political forum ... the subject has come up many time ... cool ... I can use my old soil ... don't know if I can afford additive ... I know worm castings and be expensive ... haven't check the price lately ... guess it worth checking into ....
I for a while I didn't know what the hell was going on ... put it's definitely the soil ... my friend gave me a different mix and the seedling are healthy and a couple of the electric blue plant are getting new growth ... thank God ... I sure didn't want to loose that fine lady ... if she dies she will be extinct! :O

Thank again for the info ...

that's funny. i have too read your posts, even in the political forums. somehow missed the fact that your were speaking as...a lady. (lady's man voice)

actually, i was at the farmer's market this weekend and was surprised to find a whole section where all the raw ingrediants were bagged and cheap. a couple bucks for a little bag of each. look around. maybe you can find a good deal. i think the most important ones seem to be worm castings, dolimite lime, bone meal and epson salts-for future reference. good luck, lady...

What kinda soil was it?? they should give us little man and women badges to put on our posts or avatar the little circle with the slanty arrow or straight arrow so we know who is what gender so I stop getting hit on by guys who think thats me in my avatar

FF...you're...a...guy? :spew: j/k :-) i knew about you.

i assume everyone is a guy unless they have a girly name. growing weed seems to be a dude thing much more then a chick thing. probably smoking is too. ccodiane is one i still don't know about yet. course, i never hear her/him ever comment on growing...

^^ AHHAHA I saw that in your profile man...terrible...haha like the ones that were like "you're so hot ..blah blah" just too funny that they dont bother thinking twice.

CC I don't talk much like a lady especially in the political forum ... you got to be tough there ...

CG .... No I'm using store bought potting soil ... I just don't understand what happen to it ... could I have bought a bad batch? One bag yeah ... but two ... possibly three?

FF .... The brand is Sta-Green ... and it's a flower and vegetable mix. I bought it from Lowe's last spring .... the first couple of bags did great .... then problems ... like the girls aren't getting the nutrients they need .... I just don't understand what happen to it ... but I know my problem was the Sta-Green soil ...
... my friend gave me a bag of "Pro-Mix" and I'm getting new growth on my girls ...

.... He brought me a bag of the miracle grow moisture mix today ... He suggested I mix the soils together ... the Sta-Green and the Miracle Grow ...

I'll have to check around when I'm near some framer markets and see what they have .... thanks ...

Anyone else ever have this kind of problem with potting soil?

Hi guys just wanted to update you on my girls ... they live! ... appropriate smilies here ... ... it was definitely the soil ... I transplanted my electric blue in pro-mix ... out of the 5 two died ... one was a casualty to the damn bird ... ... but the rest made it ... I have taken several clones from the survivors and I have my line up for this years outdoor grow ... yeah yeah yeah .... ... I would have posted sooner, but for a while I couldn't get to the site ... still can't without a proxy ... thanks to pro-mix my girl will live on ....
